Great win for Auburn but let's be honest

There's a good reason UK fans were cheering for Pearl's boys in that game. There is no way Auburn has a chance to beat UK. It will be their 4th game in 4 days. They will be playing without one of their only players who is taller than 6-7 after being ejected for fighting.

Auburn deserves the accolades for that win, and more power to them. I was cheering for them too. But most of my reason was because I knew Mickey wouldn't come out and lay an egg against UK. He would come to play. But LSU should have won today by double digits at the minimum. They completely blew it. It never should have come down to that final play of regulation with Auburn having a chance to tie.

This game tomorrow will be a blowout. UK by 25+.

Auburn has some athletes and will play Kentucky as hard as any team is going to in this tourney. I don't think they can beat us, and I don't think Pearl thinks so either. At least thats his coach speak. But for whatever reason, I'm excepting less than 15 point win (8-14). I can't believe I'm saying that.

Kind of OT but I'm glad Pearl is at Auburn. I think he can have them playing good basketball in the very near future. Plus it'll make the SEC look better with them being an NCAA tournament team and their fans seem excited about where the program is headed.

And just for good measure...they had to play a 5 minute overtime. They'll have no legs tomorrow.

Not going to happen, not with four straight games for Auburn.

Kentucky will crucify them tomorrow.

We're gonna kill auburn. 4th game in 4 days. Cal hates pearl. We scored at will against their midget team in lexington. I wouldn't be surprised at a 30 point lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half.

Auburn will play on pure adrenaline, they'll be fine. Georgia won 2 games in one day, 4 in 4 days total. Kids in AAU tourneys play 2 a days, 4 in 4 all the time. Legs won't be a problem, hopefully talent will.

I cracked up when one of the announcers said that UK fans were cheering not because they wanted Auburn to win but because they were seeing a great game. We wanted Auburn to win. We all know that an easier game in the semi's makes it better for us in the finals.

I wanted to face Auburn. We will be playing some great teams soon enough and it is okay to have an easier path to the SEC title.

I just have never gotten this thought process. Following this line of thinking, one should just hope that every other team forfeits and UK wins the title by default. But in that case your team hasn't accomplished squat to be proud of. Last year was a blast because UK earned every inch of that run to the championship game. To me, winning a title (SEC or NCAA) by avoiding the tougher teams just cheapens it and lessens the entertainment value. But, I guess it's just different strokes for different folks.

I'd say LSU had about a 20% chance of beating us.

Auburn has a 0.0001% chance of beating us. It could happen, but it's not going to.

I say UK starts sluggish and then steamrolls them in the second half.

UK - 81
Aub - 59

They need to come out and steamroll them in the first half like in Lexington so our key guys can rest some in the 2nd half. Just IMO.

I'm thinking that if Auburn starts the game off tomorrow like they did today against LSU, we'll be roasting them by 30 at half and never look back. Not saying it's gonna be that way, just sayin' if they start that way tomorrow, it WILL be that way tomorrow.

Seeing as how we could've dialed in any number for the amount to win by at Rupp, and how everyone just stopped playing defense and gave the crowd an up and down entertaining blowout type win the last time we played them, I expect that when/if it gets to an unreasonable margin that the game is out of hand and UK is blowing them away, it'll most likely end up being that way again. ie - ditch the defense, go up and down and put on a good show for the crowd with lots of "oooohs and aaahhhhhs!"

prediction : UK - by as much as they want to win by ......

I'm just thinking purely in terms of the greatest advantage for UK. That's all. I'm not wanting to avoid the best teams. if the best teams want to play UK, they better win. But I'm thinking that we've got another game Sunday and it would be good if the Cats have an easy one tomorrow.

And my other thought is that I'm ready to be done with these SEC teams, and the sooner and the easier the better.

And if UK wins the title by beating multiple double digit seeds, it won't lessen it at all to me. It just means that those supposed "better" teams couldn't get the job done. Why would that cheapen anything?

I can somewhat understand what you are saying, but Kentucky doesn't have anything left to prove in the SEC this year. We've already put a beating on everyone. At this time, it would be in our best interest to have an easier path through the conference tournament sot that we can provide more rest for the main players on the team and be better prepared for the Big Dance.

I believe we went that same route as Auburn when the SEC Tournament started back up in 1979 and we ran out of gas against Tennessee in that last game.

Kentucky does have something to prove in the SEC this year. That they can win the SEC tournament which they haven't been able to do in the last 3 years.

If we play anywhere close to our capabilities on Saturday, we will blow out a very tired Auburn team. Cal has no love lost on Pearl so he won't mind making a statement. Cats by 20+.

I agree with you totally ILW

Also, the comment about UK fans cheering for a great game....LOL

Not exactly, we just didn't want to face LSU's two bigs who can actually match up with us

The fighting was a gift from the Gods as is the four game string Auburn will have to followup

Even with a subpar effort (which I kind of doubt after today's lackluster first half) Auburn doesn't have a chance and Pearl more or less conceded his team is in big trouble in his postgame presser

Should be a fun Saturday for us, Cats can sharpen their claws on the Tiguhs

I still marvel at the 2012 year and how they lost to Vandy.. But it's not a big deal, since they won the NCAA championship.

I agree, I really want to see UK win an SEC championship. It's not the ultimate goal, but it is still nice for sure.

Go Cats!

I'm not going to completely discount Auburn just yet, honestly. I think their adrenaline will have them ready to at least make a good start to the game. They feel like world beaters right now, and they have absolutely nothing to lose. That makes them more dangerous. On the other hand - UK is in, the top #1 seed, we've beaten them once this season by 35, and our guys do have a tendency to "take it easy" if they think it's an easy win.

That being said - Auburn should really have no chance; they are down a player for the game (granted he didn't score much, but he's another body). They should be tired with this being their fourth game in four days. And they know they were beaten badly by UK earlier.

I'll say Cats by 27

Or, in Auburns mind - you have nothing to lose, you've won 3 games in a row, you played OK in the second half in Rupp , and clearly there's a formula to play UK competitively. Oh, and you'll be within a game of going to the NCAA tournament.

I think it will be a competitive first half.

this is my thinking . UK is up 6 at half but from the 12 min to go mark we end the game on a 31-5 run to win 88 to 54

The crowd really gave them a lift, no way they should have beat LSU(foul trouble)

Anyone who thinks this Kentucky team just beats a short-handed 15-19 basketball team who has zero size playing their 4th game in 4 days by 8-14 points doesn't have a lot of damn confidence in this team winning it all.

Or just hasn't actually paid attention.
