One of them for sure. For a school like Louisville to have a heisman winner is a huge statement for the future. I'd say it's one of the top 4 things in the history of the program. Not sure what order I'd put them in, but to me the top 4 are Jackson winning the heisman, beating FSU as badly as we did this year. Sugar Bowl over Florida and Fiesta Bowl over Bama.

Yep, we lost to UK. The deserving team won that day. You earned it. It doesn't take away from Jackson winning the heisman.

I assume you are just talking bout football. The OP was insinuating UL sports history. I think the 2013, 86 and 80 b-ball titles are high up there as well in UL sports history

You'd put this year's beat down of FSU over the early 2000's beat down of Miami, the hurricane FSU win, and the "acc welcome" thrashing of Miami? That surprises me.

Reading the title of this thread made me wonder : what has Pitino said now? He is so adorable with his never ending "greatest" quotes.

I would say

#1 1980 NCAA Basketball title
#2 Hiring Schnellenberger cause with out him Louisville football would either be in the FCS or dropped altogether.
#3 Lamar Jackson winning the Heisman Trophy, one because it is the first for Louisville and second he won it on a team that isn't a traditional powerhouse.

Lamar Jackson wins despite loss to U.K.
Not certain about "greatest day ever", UL has had some individuals pass through there with notoriety in their own right, (Johnny Unitas & HOF FB Announcer, DB Jackson), Just Saying!@!!!!

Had the same question on our board...this is what I put....

Just Football...
1. Hiring Howard Schnellenberger...Saved the Program
2. Joining the ACC...Secured the spot at the Big Boy Table
3. Heisman Trophy...Put a stamp on the Program while at the Big Boy Table

Nah, I thought they dropped basketball. Or maybe I just heard that the NCAA was going to drop it for them.
Well, according to Zipp being a "basketball school" is a negative so it would probably be in their best interest to drop it.

Disclaimer: I hate the Heisman and think it's a stupid popularity contest that gets way too much coverage.

Plenty of second-tier schools have Heisman trophy winners. San Diego State. Navy. BYU. Houston. This award doesn't make UL any more of a football power than they were on Friday.

But not 2nd tier players like Navy Roger Staubach and Houston Andre Ware was part of the old SWC with Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M....FTR San Diego State doesn't have a Heisman winner and BYU has a National Title within the past 35 years.

Whether some feel it is a stupid popularity contest or not it is the most reckonized Individual College Award in the United States and he will be on NFL Today on CBS in a few and Louisville is now One of 37 schools that have produced a Heisman Trophy winner.

SAN Diego St. does not have a Heisman winner. A navy player hasn't won since the 60's. Basically since Ty Detmer win it in 1990 a player had to be pretty much from a traditional power school. I don't think anyone has said Jackson winning makes Louisville a football power.

I really don't care about any individual award as long as we have the Governor's Cup.

Thank you for the marketing materials on the Heisman trophy. I'm well aware that the Heisman is a notable award, I just think it's a stupid award with no basic set of criteria (except that you generally cannot be a defensive player or a non-skill player).

As for "no second tier players" comment, I cannot think of anything to say except for "Duh".

Good, so we agree. Louisville is not a football power.

Congrats on your QB's award.

#4 Hiring Hurricane Katina because the 2013 title couldn't have happened without her.
