Be the first to admit I thought the kid didn’t belong in the Big 10 watching him the first year.

He deserves massive kudos for putting in the work and effort to get to where he is now- a viable Big 10 role player who knows how to maximize his talent on the court.

Nice to see a success story sometimes

Maybe before he graduates we could get him to do a Vulcan mind meld with Ty berry 😆

It’ll be really interesting to see what Greer does next year. Is he satisfied coming off the bench and getting 15-20 min/game at NU or does he want to go where he can start and play 30+ minutes? A decent comparison is Foster Loyer who left Michigan State for Davidson and is having a great year.

He really has developed into a super solid Big 10 PG. The next step for him is to have more confidence on the offensive end. He could add a lot more value if he looked for his shot and to drive a little more.

Foster Loyer was four-star, Michigan player of the year, held offers from Purdue and MSU, led a team to a state title, etc., etc.

He and Greer are both small and white. Greer is fine. I hope he stays next year, where he’ll continue to be steady. Greer’s best NU comparison would be Sobo, who was also fine.

As others have said, Greer’s best attribute is that he allows Boo to play a more aggressive scoring role when they’re together. (I still wish Audige and Boo would trade off, and that Audige would occasionally take the facilitator role, but alas, …)

Could not agree more. Even just in the course of this season, he has become more confident in his offense, and much more productive. I no longer cringe when he has the ball with the shot clock winding down. I hope he sticks around for his free Covid year. I couldn't imagine myself saying that even one month ago.

Greer had far too much attention thrust on him after the Lathon fiasco. It was not fair to him. All he did was 1) not wilt 2) work his butt off 3) never utter a peep about his tough situation and his playing struggles. He deserves our respect and the benefit of any doubt.

As I recall Greer was a reclass too wasn’t he? So he showed up on campus after thinking he was going to be playing HS ball another season

It was selfless and remarkable and he’ll be a great Cat forever for that. He’s also a significantly better player than Lathon, the appointed savior.

Greer is a cool customer, doesn't get rattled, and plays under control. He has a lot of confidence now and will hit open shots or even create off the dribble sometimes, utilizing that McIntosh floater or hitting the pull-up jumper. Just what we need to balance the hot/cold emotional and volatile Buie. Props to both, and they are effective together. Buie's game has come a long way too. He'll always take some questionable shots or try too much, but he can win games for us if he gets hot.

Greer is a 4th year player. Berry is a 2nd year player. Berry is at that same point in his college career as Greer was when people thought he wasn't a kid who belonged in the B1G. Berry will be a valuable player for the Cats by time he reaches the point Greer is at in his career.

Berry has way more natural talent and athleticism than Greer. The point was often the biggest enemy of Berry is himself. Forced shots and poor passes. Collins was all over him last night after a terrible turnover

I’m sure Berry will get better. The kid has the talent to be a bigger contributor now though

I like Greer on the court with Buie. I've said that plenty. The ball moves better. We get better looks.
Some of the individual improvement is circumstantial, however.

Buie and Greer actually had a good connection last year. They were the most productive two man combo on the team. They just rarely played together. Greer only played 23% of his (limited) minutes with Buie last year. Greer played almost half of his minutes with the erratic Audige as his shooting guard and that was a disaster.
This year he is playing 59% of his minutes with Buie. Its going better for both guys.
Greers minutes are up, deservedly so.

Buie and Greer have a 1.136 ratio of pts scored to points allowed.
Audige and Berry have a 1.141 ratio.
Anything above 1 is winning basketball.

(The 6 best combos all involve Elyjah Williams)

Interesting stat. Maybe Collins should start Greer with Buie, and have Audige come off the bench with Berry. Seems that pairing puts complementary players together. But on defense we need Audige so we'll probably see mostly the Audige-Buie combo.

I love Greer. But man, it's crazy that Greer has an "appreciation thread" after a big win (Greer had 7 points) and Buie who has lead the team in scoring in all of our wins has a "it's time to bench Boo" thread. Again, no hate on Greer because he has been a big part of our success, but the contrast is striking.

The Boo Buie boo-birds have flown the coop.

Greer deserves some appreciation because he facilitates his teammates and we play better. Little things add up over the course of a game. Still not sure we want him taking the shot to win or lose the game - its a big step up from benchwarmer to "For the win!"

We all thought Greer was a lost cause a few years ago, and he has become a contributor through his own hard work and coaching. As a college sports fan, this is the type of story we can all get behind. It does not mean that Greer is getting a bust in the NUMBB HOF next to Jordan Ash and Bill McKinney.

As for Boo, I don't see people calling for his high tops today. He has been a monster the past two games.

Buie is 4th in the conference in assists and 4th in the conference in A/TO ratio; he has 30+ more assists than the guys ahead of him in the ratio. He's also our leading scorer and has improved his FG% by 4%. He has his bugaboos, but he's having a very, very good year.
