How much would it take to get him in Lincoln? He's owned the MVC for long enough....

WSU's big fans the Koch brothers have upped the anti, believe he is making well over $3,000,000 and they give him everything he asks for. I will say this even though he is successful at WSU that he is not my first choice for coaches. I have talked to enough people in the college basketball game that have really said bad things about him. He might win games but the other coaches don't like him at all, real arrogant asshat. A big cloud of negativity with him.

There is a reason that even though he has won a bunch of games he has not been hired by bigger programs even after interviewing. Maybe someone else remembers but he interviews for a HC job at a bigger school, might have been South Carolina. Rumor has it he walked into the interview totally unprepared expecting that the job was his. Arrogance was off the charts, pissed off everyone there. Needless to say he did not impress anyone he interviewed with and was shocked that he didn't get the job.

Interesting... who would be some names you like? What are the chances we can get one IF Miles gets the axe?

I think he's tolerable if he's winning like he is with the Shockers, but I think that guy shares some of Bo Pelini's worst traits. I don't think he's a good fit.

Greggggggggggggggggggg has turned down better jobs for bigg money. No way he is comingg here. GGet that thougght out of your head.
Agree. I don't think it will take a UNC or Duke-like offer to pull Marshall out of Wichita. But in my best Bob Uecker voice, there are jusssssst a few rungs on the coaching ladder between UNC/Duke and Dear Old Nebraska U.

For someone that seems attainable without throwing $4,000,0000+ at them I like Archie Miller at Dayton. Makes about half of what Miles does and has turned Dayton into a regular NCAA Tournie Team. Only 38 years old but already has a 5-3 record in the NCAA Tournament. Dayton had something like 1 NCAA Tournament win in 15-20 years previous to Miller taking over so it is not like he took over a bigtime program with lots of resources. Plus I like that his brother Sean is also a very successful coach at Arizona. Archie's teams play fundamentally sound and he doesn't appear to get outcoached in games. It bothers me that we have been such an up and down team under Miles, over the years beat ranked teams like Maryland and Wisconsin but lose to Incarnate Word, and teams like that who nobody even knows where they are located.

I also like Musselman and having his NBA experience plus his reputation in the midwest could help with recruiting.

I am sure SE has a list of names if he is considering letting Miles go. I would like to see the firing done earlier than later so that we can get in on good coaches before other programs come after them. We have the resources to pay a Top 25 salary to bring in a coach with the credentials we are looking for.

Archie's not coming here when his alma mater NC State also has an opening. He could also be a candidate for Indiana and Ohio State if those jobs come open.

Realistic candidates? Eric Musselman, Joe Dooley, King Rice, Will Wade would be names on my list. Knowing Eichorst, it will be an old Pac-12 coach on the hot seat - Lorenzo Romar?

Or the one who got axed from the Pac-12 last year - Johnny Dawkins. Wouldn't excite me at all, but some Power 5 program will probably give him another shot.

Throw the checkbook at Lue. Maybe his heart will want to get Lincoln on track in basketball. Im not usually a "hire a former player" guy but he has proven the ability to coach and has experience (unlike other former players).

I don't know you, but this is the stupidest post I've ever read on here...bar none.
Marshall has his flaws, but to say he is unprepared in an interview or has even been turned DOWN is beyond lame. He may not be overly likable, but:
-kids play very hard and defend
-incredibly unselfish
-go to class and are generally very good citizens

I see him coach about 20 times a year, 5-6 in person....the game is never over. The kids at the end of the bench get coached as hard as the starters. Would I love to see him in Lincoln? In a heartbeat....will it happen? No.

I was waiting for this to come out. I live 70 miles from Wichita and know several well connected Shocker fans. I have heard none of the negative comments mentioned here. For certain, winning tends to make people turn the other way on things but one look at the players and how they play for him, stay in the program, graduate, stay relatively clean - there is definitely something positive going on there. To compare him to our former FB HC is a stretch.

I actually think Joe Dooley would take the Nebraska job if offered. He's an East Coast guy, but spent a long time at KU.

If Marshall is smart he'll stay right there in Wichita regardless who offer's him. He's in a nice comfort zone there. The heck with the power 5 schools.

How is this the stupidest post ever read on here ....bar none? That information I passed along came from Basketball Coaches/players/ADs of Power 5 Conference teams. I have relatives that are/were in the college basketball world and they have heard plenty about him. Ask any Kansas or Kansas St coach what they think of Marshall. I can understand your affinity to Marshall and defense of him since you are a Shockers fan, which is understandable.

He has some great teams and is doing a wonderful job. Reality is we all know unless SE pays him somethine ridiculous like $6,000,000+/year Marshall is not coming to Nebraska. Supposedly he turned down $3,300,000+ to go to Alabama. Also being rumored to be considered for Illinois if they fire Groce. Marshall has had some good programs interested in him, and he turned them down. But he did really botch one of the interviews and that info spread amongst the gossip tree of the college coaches/ADs. I think it was South Carolina, which I believe he actually wanted probably because that is his home state. Ironic the USC job went to Frank Martin who was coaching Kansas St at the time. With that being said his personality is really off-setting to many in the College Coaching Fraternity. Maybe some are jealous of his success but if wins were strictly the reason wouldn't coaches also be saying the same negative things about Coach K, Bill Self, Roy Williams... I think many coaches view Marshall in the same way they view Crean, which makes me chuckle a little because I think they also somewhat look alike.

The success he had at Wintrop and has continued at WSU is impressive. Great bench coach and player developer. Basically makes a Top 25 team out of diamonds in the rough, transfers and JUCO's. Why would he leave WSU for Nebraska? Koch Bros take care of him and he has too good of a situation to go to a struggling program like Nebraska. I don't see him leaving WSU unless one of the more Blue Blood programs come calling with a big check. He would be an upgrade for Nebraska but I don't see it happening. Every Coach has his warts, including Marshall.

Spartan must mean "not intentionally" trying to be stupid b/c I read a LOT of really stupid, stupid, opinions here (and I'm being polite).

I like Marshall's squeaky clean image. He's got a heck of a temper and those close to the program have seen it. Now we got our wires crossed up on temper=crazy after the BP years here, so I personally could care less on that. Obviously those around the Wichita area really like the guy (who doesn't like winners?...pfft, we even like losers up here). Agree with others that he should stay in MVC and continue to be the best coach ever in the MVC. It's a good gig for all involved...

I will amend my statement slightly...my issue with it is that there is very little validity to anything you can offer from' relatives in the coaching fraternity...and how do I know that???Because I(and probably 5 others on here) are 'connected' to the coaching fraternity and know a different tune. He IS combative, he is fierce, but to say he goes into interviews unprepared goes against ANYTHING you see about his teams, his camps, everything.
But asking the KU and KSU coaches and fans how they feel about him is laughable...it's like asking people who have been in a tornado if they like them or not. He gets under their skin because THEY (especially Self) WON'T PLAY HIM....because they run the risk of losing(in KSU, the probability of losing).
As far as I know he has not sought a job TO THE END that he didn't get. Schools(Alabama, Missouri) have come calling EAGERLY with no 'yes' from him.
Here's the big surprise...I don't really care for him as a person...I DO think he is boorish at times, whereas Self, who I kind of like, is not....BUT I guarantee you that these lawbreakers that Self has not punished one bit(by playing time, except for Bragg) would have been set down by Marshall.

I stand by what I said. One of my sources is my brother who worked for the Kansas Jayhawks under Roy Williams and is still connected to them. I have no reason not to believe my brother plus he still keeps in contact with many of the current and former coaches/asst coaches/players. Ironic this morning we were discussing Marshall. He laughed. He said there is no way Marshall is coming to Nebraska, so I think we can stop with our pissing match and let it drop. Enjoy watching your well coached Shockers win plenty of games under Marshall.

Utt oh...I see Shocker fans little man syndrome is starting to show. All b/c someone said the head coach at Wichita St might be apt for the next coaching job at Nebraska (whoever did that, look at what you started)...

Wow...I've read it all now. There are apparently 5, maybe 6, in the connected coaching frat here. WOW, I just want to use this post to genuinely and sincerely thank you for allowing me to read you material for so long here on this public forum. I always knew we were in the midst of severe greatness...just really needed it spelled out. Pretty sure one of these coaching HOFers said Miles was the best thing since sliced bread a few years back. I guess us no nothings just can't see/feel real greatness quite like you pro's. I'll hang up and listen...

And I will say that you are missing a couple of key points...first, and to add, I hold Roy Williams in low regard because he sicced the NCAA on WSU because he lost out on Maurice Evans in 1997, even though the NCAA found no evidence of wrongdoing...and AGAIN, asking those people their thoughts about him is not credible because they don't WANT to like him because he is a threat. He WAS offered by Alabama, he WAS offered by Mizzou...turned them both down...per sources I know close to HIM.

But you are missing another point...my 'rooting' for WSU is FARRRRR down the line behind the Huskers...when Sadler brought his boys in here with the NIT , I was in total red, much to the derision (increasingly, as the game went on) of my good Shocker friends. So I would feel no remorse if one day he said "I want the ultimate challenge...bring a winner to Nebraska!"...only joy. But it won't happen...that is the one thing we agree on...he's not EVER coming to Lincoln.

But to expect people to 'like' him who are threatened by him ...you should expect they won't. Just not a fan of throwing facts that might not be facts out ther.

I'm done,

Throw 5 million at Dana Altman, or consult with Ty Lue to help find us an up and comer in the NBA ranks. At this point I think our only hope is to throw a ton of money at our program and hope **** finally sticks.

Just now reading this....I'm assuming it's pointed at me...yes, I've like Miles...STILL like Miles...would love for it to work out....probably won't....

Classic response, though...nowhere did I say that 'knowing' people made me smarter or privvy to a ton of inside info...just know them. Point was, that escaped you, I believe, is that MANY people can trot out that "I know people" card and it is just as likely to be wrong as the 'man in the street....

Happy now?
