Proven winning head coach. Six bowl seasons at Rutgers, who had a worse history than we did. He's the sole reason they are in the Big Ten. Defensive coordinator at Ohio state now. Could step in and win with talent on hand, plus keep recruiting pipeline in Ohio open. Probably too good a coach to be here, but not so phenomenal that its unimaginable. Good college coach, not a pro one. Kinda the path of Butch Davis at North Carolina or Steve Spurrier at South Carolina. Or Rich Brooks at Kentucky.

The naysayers would want you to believe we wouldn't have a chance at getting a coach like Schiano. No chopping wood at UK!!!'

I think the story here is Ohio St and many other schools hire proven ex coaches who might of failed at being a head coach in the nfl or was a good coordinator and failed at being a head coach.
What we do here is on the job training. No experience necessary.

It looks to me like a lot of fans are wasting a lot of time on here, we have our coach through the 17 seaso------if not a lot longer.
Then why post about spring ball? I mean it's not really the game that counts for anything. Why post about recruiting? I mean we already have a team and they may not come here anyways. It's a message board. Not everything that is discussed here as to be relevant. We're all wasting our time on here more or less anyways.

Outstanding choice. He will probably get a good offer this season, and Stoops will be around at least through next year. I still think Stoops may get enough done to survive....

He was run out of the NFL because of the "rough" way he treats players. We don't need a football version of Billy Gillispie - if those stories are true. Also, I'm back to my old way of thinking. We need an offensive minded coach. You can scheme around a talent deficiency on offense. You can't on D - if the other team is bigger, stronger and faster, that's what you get. I think a D coordinator here is a long shot.

Don't speak logic to jauk, he won't comprehend and won't respond back.

If we were to get a new coach in the next year or 2 then my guess would be Eddie Gran would be that person. I highly doubt that Mitch would hire a proven head coach. Now, having said that I also think that by the end of 2017 [that is the earliest possibility of looking for a coach] that Mark Stoops will have done enough to retain his job.

You can keep saying this but a 3-9 record and 3/4 empty stadium would make that decision of a new coach . 12 million dollar buyout or not. Season ticket sales already went down this past offseason.

For the record I would welcome Schiano

Mitch wouldn't pay a $1200 buyout much less a $12 million one. Ain't gonna happen no matter what this year's records/attendance are. Mitch has the mentality of an account and even though spending $12 million now may make him millions more in the long run, that's not what accountants do. Plus, he went "all in" on Stoops and isn't going to bail because of stinking fans. I expect the ole "microwave" to get revved up by Mitch here sometime soon.

Not sure were this $12 million buyout number has come from? Having just read Stoops contract and extension, it pretty clearly says that if he is terminated after 12/1/2016 he is owed 80% of the remaining contract. Say you fire him Dec 2 he would have already been paid a $1.3 million of his 2016-2017 money as the year is July 1-June 30... UK would owe him 80% of the remainder of the 2016-2017 contract and the next 2 years

2016-2017 - $1.8 M <--remainder of year
2017-2018 - $3.35 M
2018-2019 - $3.6 M
Total $8.75M <- would owe him 80%

UK would owe him about $7 million and that isn't all at once, it would still be monthly through the end of the contract.

Also dont forget Boosters can pony up that money because during buyouts.. Boosters are usually the ones to do it...not the university. and also many times buyouts are negotiated down ...

Would his buyout be offset by any money he receives as salary if he takes another job? Stoops will land as a high-level DC in just a few days after he is terminated by UK.

There are two amendments to the Stoops contract, each replacing the previous buyout language. In the more recent, controlling amendment, the date requiring 100% payment is December 1, 2017.

However, this may be important: if Stoops is fired on or before December 1, 2017, the school is to pay the contract in its normal monthly installments. But, if he is fired after that date the school has to pay a lump sum within 60 days of firing him.

Something to keep in mind.

I thought it was 8 million too but Matt Jones said 12 million on the post game Saturday. A lot of mis information is out there regarding his contract that's for sure. No matter what the cost is, I think an empty stadium at the end of the year means a new coach. Not unless Mitch plans for the team to play in Memorial Coliseum next season
