Ummmmm....which ones on the FB board? Seems like we have been battling regularly over there despite a 10 win season. Was smithee considered the epitome of negativity? Midvale - wasn't he the ying to Glades yang? I think a couple were also banned - purplsomething, for example. Even Turk - I seem to recall when he was a twin to wrassler with his over the top optimism. Mr Very Young Cat who's opinions have yet had time to Mature - can you please elaborate with some specifics?

The only negative one that comes to mind is from the BB board - go ole Doc. Those battles with Va sure were boring. Much like the football board is today. Wonder if there is another Turk siting post - maybe I should go check...
There were others that you have not mentioned, but board politics is stupid and I'm sorry for engaging.

Perfect reasonable. But if you've looked at Groce and he's not your vision of the future (think Philips and Carmody) you don't want him coaching a healthy team next year.
Philips waited several years. A new guy (who is not in place) would likely have very little idea regarding Groce coming in. Likely will be stuck with FB for at least a year as well as it is too late in the process. If the AD was in place already he might have an opinion but with none in place during the season, awfully hard to make such a move (unless he/she already has a replacement in mind) Just saying the longer it goes, more difficult it is to make the move right away.

Bob or xyz -- real tough for you to get a handle on it... xyzbobxyz. It's all that Purplaid - makes it tough to read sometimes.

Nah...it's just much easier to remember a poster's handle when they have something interesting to say. I can't remember yours because you don't much.

Well, the new AD is a former Illini and was living across the river in St. Louis so my guess is he has a handle on the quality of coaching at his alma mater.

His resume shows that he swiftly and completely cleaned house at Wash. U. Even money says he does the same at Illinois. Wouldn't be surprised if the football coach doesn't make it to April. My guess is he bounces Groce after this season, not that Groce has done anything terrible.

And this AD, once hired, won't give two ***** about the chancellor's opinion of the coaches. It's his show. He'll raise big money and simultaneously transform the two revenue sports.

Bad for us.

It's a little different doing those activities at a D-III school like Wash U compared to a B1G school with a recent terrible reputation. Let's try to avoid Chicken Littleism until the guy makes his first hire maybe?

I don't think you know too much about Josh Whitman.

Didn't realize that they had anew AD. I guess it just happened. That said, I would still guess he might wait a year. Probably too late for FB to change right now. And BB? Hard to say that Groce really did anything wrong.

Enlighten me.

Ya know what Cappy? I'm trying not to be rude on this board. I regret that post. Maybe you're his dad. How would I know?

IMO he's a much higher quality hire than I though Illinois was capable of making. At Wash U. he was a very big fish in a medium sized pond.

I'll leave it at that.

I would say he's coming from a small sized pond and he was their 5th or 6th choice, after the others turned them down. There two top choices were the AD at Colorado and former illini and then there was the tennis exec from down under, who also said no thanks. The rest of the possibilities were employed at directional schools. Don't think many, including many Illinois alums consider this a quality hire, just a desk that needed to be filled.

I don't think Illinois has a clue who they just hired. This is a little like Pope Francis....if they knew what they were getting they never would have hired him. He'll clean house.

The only questionable part is that he's leaving St. Louis to live in Champaign. So it could be a case of one too many hits to the head.

Wash U for Josh W was like AAA for Kris Bryant. An amazing number of accomplishments in very little time. He was headed to D1, it was just a question of where and when.

Ah, the grammar police strike, and one wonders why a lot of former posters have stopped of drastically cut back their posting. Maybe they could not care less.

We already proved in the other thread that it is far from "a lot". So you can stop repeating this exaggeration.
