Personal confession prior to yesterday
….I was wondering if we could steal the UCLA QB. Never mind

Who is behind Grunk? This roster is in bad shape.
Just think. If Franklin would have gotten Allar to jump to the pros and kept Beau Pribula we would be sitting at 6-0 right now, Franklin would be still employed, and Allar would be an NFL backup. Convincing Allar to stay for this year and letting Pribula hit the portal was probably the biggest mistake Franklin made in his coaching career.

Did he look like a dual threat on his play Saturday? lol
He has a strong arm is faster and more accurate than Allar and it's not close. He certainly has the more accurate long ball. He's not 235 lbs but doesn't need to be. He just needs to play in a less complicated system. I think they will pare the book down for him which will probably be best for the whole offense.

IMO going forward is not about making a bowl game or some other things. It's about getting a coach in here salvaging the recruiting class and getting ready for next year. Even if they can go 6-6, I hope they say no to a bowl game so the new coach can best take advantage of that time. But that's just me.

It’s probably true. And Pribula would have filled the leadership void on this team.

It really boggles the mind. He hires a guy who has an offense tailor-made for Pribula. He then lets that QB leave and doesn't change the offense for the guy who stayed.

I respectfully disagree. A bowl game gets your team multiple full weeks of additional practice time that is not permitted to teams that do not get to participate in a bowl game. The game itself is meaningless...the preparation and additional time can be priceless.

This team is not winning 6 games. There are only 2 actual winnable games left on the schedule in Michigan State and Rutgers.

All logical. Of course, being more accurate than Allar would include most QBs.

Going to be tough on Grunk. He should have had a little more experience but the team laid eggs in every game this year. And no WRs. He will need to mentally tough just to survive.

That assumes there is not a mass exodus.

I thought Grunk was from the same area of Ohio as Drew and also shared the same QB coach growing up though they attended different high schools.
Different high schools and different areas, BUT they both had the same qb "trainer"...however, I don't think the trainer was responsible for the Drew Aller "regression."

With the same pass blocking, Beau may have been hospitalized by now if he was still at PSU.

Franklin should have told Allar to go pro because that's what was best for him
Then he needed to hit the portal for a QB. Mateer, Mendoza, etc.

Grunk is now in a very tough position, and his opening debut will be in one of the toughest environments under the lights. They hate us and that crowd will be rabid. If Grunk and the team can pull off a victory Saturday night imo it will be a miracle. If the OL can protect him and the D steps up, we have a real shot.

Doesn't matter who leaves/stays, decommits/commits, Franklin's position here was untenable. He could've had 4 consecutive top 5 recruiting classes and he'd still be known as Big Game James because he's just not a big game coach. To be fair, big game coaches don't grow on trees, but when you know you don't have one it's time to look for another.

No matter what I think we end up with a new QB coach. Even if Terry Smith were to end up with the job changes are going to be made.
