GT fan here, anything specific to look out for from Louisville? Strengths weaknesses etc? Honestly don’t know much about y’all since we didn’t play last year.

We are just as clueless as you are right now since we have a new coaching staff and a lot of new players. All I know is there is a lot of positive hype so I am excited about the season early.

We are a lot more confident in Brohm making us a fundamental sound team. Lots of lapses under Satterfield.

This is how we feel as well. We looked like a completely different team after Key took over as HC for the final 8 games last year so I’m interested in how we look with a full off season under him but with new faces, coaches etc we have no clue. Our secondary should be stout with 3-4 NFL talent guys and our DL should be good. Besides that, we don’t know a lot haha. Should be a good test for both schools to see where they are.

Safe travels to any of y’all making the trip for the game

Where is Cooley on the RB depth chart?

Returning 4 of their 5 OL is a concern, as they should have an advantage on the LOS. That is the only real concern that I have, how our front 7 can neutralize their running game.

Yes, the program is reloading, not rebuilding. When a roster goes from 7 four star recruits to 24 in one year, expectations are going to be positive.

I don't know much about Georgia Tech but Louisville should win going away against the Yellow Jackets. Brohm is going to have his first team ready for his first game at Louisville.

41 to 24 Cards.

GT isn’t deprived of talent. GT’s issues has been coaching. That’s why you immediately saw a change once Key took over as HC last year beating Pitt, Duke, and UNC and then taking UGA to the half 10-7. Our back 7 will have 6 or so 4 stars that play significant snaps.

Same thing here at Louisville with coaching. Brohm is a huge upgrade over Satterfield, especially on the offensive side.

I read where many question Louisville's defense not because of who's on the team now but who isn't on the team from last season. It's true the Cards lost some great defensive players, but it's not like it left the team decimated.

This team may not be top 5 in defense but it doesn't need to be to win a lot of games. It's still should be a top 20 defense and with a higher scoring offense, that will lead to wins.

GT definitely improved after making the coaching change but this is a tough matchup to start the season. Louisville should be a pre-season ranked team and GT will see for themselves on September 1.

We all remember the Petrino 1.0 days where we had an offense that was constantly pushing the pedal. Aggressive offense regardless of time and score.

Brohm is bringing that back and if Plummer is as good as we're all expecting him to be, then yes, I see GT having to make a lot of game adjustments leading to big plays for the Cards.

Unlike under Satterfield who would back off with 2 score lead, trying to basically run the clock out on the opponent.

What transfers coming in do y’all expect to start for y’all?
The WR and DB positions have multiple 4 star transfers, plus the QB, Jack Plummer.

Cards are stacked at every position but TE and LB. And we're bringing in a new punter and kicker.

There's a good balance of playing experience with both returning players and the transfers. Coach Brohm has said this roster is more talented than any of his Purdue rosters.

Louisville is a winning football program with only a few losing seasons in the last 30 years. Everything is set for continued success. I'm a bit more optimistic than many fans which is unusual for me. The last time I had this much high expectations in the pre season was in Lamar Jackson's sophomore season.

And we reached #5 in the polls and had Clemson beat on their field.

This time however there's no Lamar but the coaching is much better. Don't see a #5 ranking but this team is going to be very hard to beat.

You definitely seem more optimistic than most other Louisville fans I’ve seen.

No fans like to be overconfident. Well, that is unless your name is TheRealVille.

A more measured response is this:

Louisville fans believe that Jeff Brohm is an upgrade from Satterfield both in terms of offensive play calling and aggressive mindset.

Louisville does lose a supreme athlete in Malik Cunningham, but most fans believe that the previous staff failed to develop Malik and that a less athletic QB will still find success because Coach Brohm has historically improved QBs over time. Additionally, Coach Brohm is more likely to adjust his game plan and force the opponent to react to him rather than sticking to a set strategy that isn’t working.

It would be insanity to believe that this year’s defense will be as disruptive as last year’s Louisville squad, but it is reasonable to believe that the defense won’t be required to score points to prop up the offense as was usually the case last season.

It’s all speculation and, in general, we fans know very little about GT other than the fact that your coach performed well as an interim last season and that your OC hire has been questioned by Tech fans.

All the best to you and yours Techwreck47. Enjoy the season and stay safe!

Back in 2016 pre-season I got much the same response when I predicted Louisville to go 10 and 2. Most of my fellow Cards fans disagreed that Lamar would make such a big difference in his sophomore season.

But I knew that the offense would be dynamic and if the defense could hold its own, a top 10 ranking was inevitable. However, I didn't forsee the OL struggling like it did, especially those last three games.

We now know Bobby Petrino was not
the same coach he was his first time here and he basically was using Lamar to once again enhance his coaching aspirations. He miscalculated and when Lamar left for the NFL, Petrino wasn't prepared to keep working hard as the head coach for UofL and was fired.

Now this year there's no Lamar but there's a hungry, motivated head coach who has built a roster with so much talent not seen since the Charlie Strong years.

At this time last season, no one foresaw a top 5 defense with Louisville. In fact, most fans wanted the DC to be replaced. The thing missing from last season that kept Louisville from being a top 10 team was the offensive philosophy by Satterfield. He basically caused Malik Cunningham's regression as a QB.

Now with Brohm and a pocket passing QB like Jack Plummer, the offense will be much better than last season and the defense doesn't need to carry the team. A defense that I believe will still be disrupted and successful.

GT is just starting to get over the option offense it had employed for years and are rebuilding. Louisville has reloaded and I don't think a 17 point win is not a measured opinion. I initially was going to predict a 44 to 10 game.

Of course anything can happen in sports. No Cards fan expected Syracuse to blow our lids off in game 1 last season. That was Satterfield. We have Brohm now.

Plummer played for Brohm for 3 seasons at Purdue, so he knows the playbook. A QB coming with a new HC GREATLY speeds up the teams learning curve on offense.

Defense, I'm unsure, I don't know much about the new DC.

Complete ******** call. Just tell your QB to wait until the very last second to slide and it’s targeting every GD time. Maybe they should drop kick his *** instead.

At least that way it’s not targeting.

There's got to be some modification on these targeting calls. Why throw the player out? Needs to be like basketball with flagrant 1 and 2.

This is not a difficult decision and it should have happened by now.

Huggins-Bruce was completely defenseless as he was being held up by three defenders and the slammed into by a 4th. No targeting?

So far Plummer isn't getting it done. He's underthrown three key passes already. Cards look dominant defensively.

To his defense the GT player was holding the hell out of our receiver but they aren’t calling anything on Tech. First drive the pass to the corner of the end zone the db didn’t even play the ball just face guard with contact. 2 blown calls conventionally

Not only holding but when Ga Tech is on offense they are holding and blocking in the back.

I agree if Plummer can’t connect you have to go with someone else. We might see that in the 2nd half.

If Plummer doesn’t do anything on this drive I say pull him before things get out of hand.
