i hope jasper johnson can help show this damage fanbase that freshman are legit, i mean guys like boozer dybantsa and caleb wilson have played amazing, and both rated transfers like (oscar cluff) got outplayed by moreno WHO'S A FRESHMAN

Thank you!!! My gosh, this kid doesn't appear to be a generational player to me from the clips I've watched, I mean he's a talented guy but I trust Pope to keep doing what he's doing to bring in talent.
As a couple of other fans have discussed, I want a kid who wants to be at UK and not for JUST the money.
I don’t care what people have done in the past but stokes’ family loves UL. They’re from Louisville. And the kid could love Nike and play at an adidas school without doubt. I’m sure Nike tried to influence him and I’m sure Nike knows he could go to UL. If it’s not UL I believe it will be another out of state school. Everyone has UK top 3 for leverage in nil deals. We continue to be a hat on the table.
Nike don’t own the kid and I don’t think Nike cares when he will spend his 1 year in college.

We’re not One & Done U anymore, we’re Transfer Portal U now. The one and done guys are not in it to championships. The transfer guys who’ve been in school for many years are, it is what it is. I hope he picks Kentucky but I’m not going to lose sleep if he doesn’t

That's what I don't understand, why people act like we have zero shot now because some random reports said he was committing around bbm with zero confirmation from him and now because he didn't commit then we have no chance of getting him.

Even the ones who are chasing the money some will want to come here not just for the money. That’s the players I want. Hope Pope will be the greatest coach we’ve ever had and build a legacy that beats out all the others. It’s crazy that Kentucky doesn’t have one legacy but multiple ones in different times. That’s what makes us king of college basketball.

Top freshman are better than veterans who have no choice but to stay in college. Maybe they have more heart or better reasons for being at a place but talent alone these top freshman are better most of the time.
Flagg was better than any portal guy last year
But I am not sure if Stokes is as good as Flagg/Boozer...
Even if he’s a notch below them he’s still better than most portalers

Take this for what it’s worth but Pope and Hart were at Carson’s yesterday with who I believe was Stoke’s family (but not Stokes). No idea what was discussed but 99% sure that’s who it was.

You have me beat. I have only had 1 insider info and it turned out to be wrong.
JQ was rated as the Number 4 portal player by ON3 and was highly rated coming out of high school particularly before he reclassed to 2024.

Agreed I think Pope and the staff have game planned every scenario to put themselves in the best situation possible. Doesn’t mean you always get what you want as option 1 because we’re dealing with humans who can lie, deceive, or just change their minds. But they won’t be left empty handed.
If this season plays out like it looks like it might after that exhibition then I think more and more of these top kids from HS and the transfer portal will have UK on their minds.
Yea I do see a lot overlook this fact, but if we’re gonna be picky, JQ did want to come to Kentucky before. And he’s not a freshman. I still think it counts, but also want to see that first big bang in the freshman class. Stokes would be that.
Of course it could also be said he has ties to Kentucky. Johnson was that recruit in an way and it’s still said.
It’s possible pope will need to land the top prospect from California or Maine before we give it to him. Fanbase is wild.
For sure. This is the year we realize not many coaches could have done what he did last year. Man, sht was fast. He didn’t have sht for time and beat Duke and teams like Tennessee who’d been stockpiling during COVID. I think the story on Mark is already told. #9 this year, and we get to see all the people that do what they do everytime we transition eat it again. “Notre Dame of college basketball” doesn’t make much sense to me. Love watching those types, and the revolving team “other than Kentucky” in the SEC (currently Auburn) gets slapped in the face with the reality so many before them do.
They had it before you, they had it during you, and they’ll have it when you’re gone.
IMO Garrison won't be back. Neither will Mo D. I'm not sure about Jelavic but can see him leave as well. O will be gone, Lowe and maybe Johnson.

Pope don’t get credit for JQ until he plays. At least from my perspective. He’s not much of a recruiting win if he doesn’t play. He for sure isn’t playing the beginning of the season. Maybe he gets in the last half.
since day one I haven’t felt good about him playing. If he gets healthy for the tournament do you think his team is going to risk it for a few games?
I think you can rest easy. Pope is a program guy like most of these coaches are. I’ve never seen a guy at UK that would dream of recruiting a guy who’d never play. And he’s from the Pitino tree, there’s just little chance of that.
Calipari is really the only coach I can think of that would actually recruit a player with no intention of him ever playing.
