Has he prepaid for the next Cam Newton? I was under the impression they were still on the hook for part of Chizik's salary as well. Are they taking a page from the Tennessee AD playbook?

Interesting that 2020 covers gives him a contract until the 2020 class graduates. Something they had to do for recruiting reasons, AU would be having a new coach for next year was being used against them. If AU goes 7-6, finishes in the bottom half of the West and loses to Bama all very likely again he will almost certainly be gone. Remember this is a place that fired a coach who won a NC less than 2 years after he won a NC who had signed an extension.

They need a mobile QB to run his offense.

Even that doesn't cover it, need a mobile qb who can read the option effectively and can read a defender. When they run that qb read inside, the qb has 4 options of what to do, give to dive, turn up and run, hit the receiver in the flat or throw a deeper route to the second receiver. It puts tremendous pressure on the defenders on the edge. But with the qbs they had last season, none were a real threat to run the ball enough to hurt the defense. If they have a running threat at QB, DL and ILB have to handle that dive to free the S to help with those options, otherwise the qb run will wear you out because the O will have more options than you can cover.

all about recruiting. Auburn must be struggling having to answer to recruits who point at all the stories about how Gus is on the hottest of hot seats going into 2016.

Exactly. They're likely going to end up with more top 10 players in the state than we will this year. Makes no sense, especially since quite a few of them are defensive players. Why the hell any top-tier defensive prospect would want to go to AU instead of Bama, FSU or UGA is beyond me (I'm sure Grumpy will agree, particularly with the Derrick Brown situation). There are 2 stud in-state LB's that they will probably get. One of them was raised in a Bama household and we are his favorite team but his handler is very close to the AU coaching staff. The other named us as his leader a few weeks ago and was a silent commit that was ready to pull the trigger, but then he talked to the AU coaches the other day and he is now trending to the barn.
