If the Huskers are graduating 19 seniors and trying to replace them with 10 high schoolers and then another 9 portal guys, those numbers likely won't work. I think originally NU planned to sign 9 kids and 10 portal kids, but then they added the Aussie kicker late.

Those numbers will change when NU finds out maybe 10 players will walk away or enter the portal. If they wanted a high school kid a LOT, they should have just went after him. I suspect NU got told NO a lot by some of their targets.
I still say that Minnesota game cost us recruits. Iowa may have cost us somebody too. We had recruits in for that sh##show.

A loss at home to MICH, a road a*s whipping on a Friday night? to MINN, a Saturday night home loss to USC, an east coach blowout to PSU and another home blowout of Black Friday, not the best way to attract talent.

So do you reach on high schoolers to fill or do you over pay for free agents. Looks to me like we’re hitting the free agent market.

Not me especially after the last two games, tj really struggled against really good defenses give me Dylan and a vastly improved o line
Dylan also struggles against really good defenses. I think TJ can make a bigger jump next year, especially if our OL issues aren't resolved.

There's no need to overpay. Plenty of free agents out there who aren't getting their true value.

That's why Rhule is paying Stewart a ton of money for. Stewart should have everything at his disposal to make intelligent decisions, as long as Matt keeps his nose out of Stewart's business. Which I think is impossible for Matt to do.

IF the guy is worth his salt, the mistakes from portal additions should be at a minimum. When you start with a finite amount of money you always know where you can splurge and where you can't.

If we want guys who can line up against OSU we’re going to have to probably pay more than other teams for them. It’s market determined.

Okay it is market determined, I certainly don't deny that. Plenty of teams are not paying certain guys their full value. Heck that's even the case right now for us with EJ. Especially younger guys who are just emerging will fall into this category. In fact, if our GM is anything worth his salt, it should be damn near 100% of his job to identify these guys around the country.

I also think the Iowa's of the world who do a great job of development won't be able to keep up with the NIL market if certain programs sniffed around their roster.

Some have floated that idea
What position did Donovan play at in Wisconsin? If it was guard, maybe do get a designated tackle coach. Who knows coaches are a crap shoot-some teach and develop well but can’t recruit. Some can’t do both. I remember Garrison recruited decent. Would like him to come back.

I think most would love to have Garrison back in the fold. I’m not sure he has that desire. He had the chance when we fired Austin. Of course Frost was a dead man walking then. I suspect he’ll lots of interest from other SEC teams.

Sometimes less is more. Eg, we had a ton of extra help on defense this year, and it didn't do jackshit for us.

When we had our best offensive lines we had 2 coaches Tenopir and Young. Osborne believed in that formula so if we're not going to fire Raiola perhaps they should consider getting a great o line coach to help. They have the money.
And why would a great o-line coach want to come in and help Donovan's worthless ***?

@king_kong__ acts like he thinks Nebraska should be competing with the B1G mid tier teams. Some people with their lofty expectations…
Kong and others have a right to their opinions it’s there constant bitching just can’t let it go, they remind me of a buddy of mine x wife. I don’t like how this season ended I see a lot of glaring issues, right now coach Rhule is living rent free in there heads

Nope

Rhule is a clown

I’m just here telling all you dim bulbs “I told you so” as usual

there are very, very few people on this board who have any clue what good football looks like

I knew after 1 game this soft little feel-good nice guy era would end with a whimper

It’s unfair to have any expectations.

cushiest job in all of sports is HC of NU Football. No pressure, infinite resources, infinite excuses.

I am getting a gut feeling that Dylan and his uncle are both staying at NU. It is a feeling based on nothing. But I think if there was real movement on Dylan going elsewhere there would be more rumors by now. But so far nothing but crickets. And in Rhule's press conference I got the distinct impression that he was throwing cold water on the idea that there would be a lot more coaching changes coming. He said something about how this is not time for a total "do over" of everyone and everything. He then focused on possible further changes in the coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball since the new coordinator will most likely want to hire his own guys.
If true, I am fine with Donovan staying as line coach. He has brought in some decent recruits, there is some young talent, and I liked how the offensive line, despite injuries, actually seemed to get better as the season progressed.
Would love to see Dylan back behind center next year again.
I am not sure of why everyone thinks Dylan is leaving. He has not said one word. Food for thought

His brother decommitted despite us being his only meaningful offer. And then Dylan started following and liking posts of people like Dan Lanning. That’s a “word”.

We outrushed Min something like 190 to 60 but had 3 int's and a fumble. We beat ourselves that game. Soft? Will agree we have witnessed that but not from the 1st game. I've been around long enough for all 5 NC's and can recognize good football, along with a lot of the posters here.

Did Dayton sign with any school?
Not yet. He’s probably smart. He has all spring to find a good fit. Honestly he might be best off going to a place like the MAC, SDSU or NDSU. Go somewhere where he can play early. Thats been a better recipe for career advancement than languishing on the bench behind a guy like TJL. I still wouldn’t have minded having him on the bench for depth but I question whether he would ever be a starter.

We need to do the American thing. Poach every really good, under paid O line and D linemen. And poach a good RB. Then poach Brahmer the TE that got away and went to Iowa State. Poach two edge guys while your at it. Bend every rule, let it be known we are open for business. We can offer cash, much better co eds than Ioway, more cash, awesome stadium and practice facilities. Just don't bring up the coaching staff. We need to think like pirates.

Yeah, we do our best work with players that have already been developed somewhere else.

The insider board says that Dom is shopping Dayton and Dylan as a package deal (they have to go to same Adidas school). Probably limits the options.

If any school "thinks" Dylan is a 5* talent, that should be a slam dunk.

Somebody wants to offer me a Suh and I have to take his little brother, where do I sign?
Why do that to your kid though? Let him find his own path. His name alone would find him a spot. I think he would be better off in a place where he can play early.

Do you really think Dominic thinks Dayton will earn any NFL paychecks? He's gonna get a lot more money in that package deal tagging along with DR.

Dylan has already been vastly overpaid the last two seasons. Year 1 he was at $2 mil, and in year 2 he was at $3.5 mil. His production has come nowhere close to matching that value.

I'd much rather drop him and use the NIL savings for DL and OL transfers. I like TJ better anyway.
Well, the last two games we got blown out and were terrible on offense, especially in the passing game. Statistically he has been very good, not a great fit for Rhule and obviously a porous offensive line when it comes to pass protection but he is and has been one of the top 3 best players on the team. He is overpaid a bit if the numbers you state are accurate, valuations aren't payments. I think the Rhule experiment is over, sooner better than later, and we need to go out and get an innovator on offense...not to be good at offense but learn how to be decent with limited NIL payments, then put everything on an elite defense. This was the formula for the national titles...a ton of nebraska kids on offense, and spend all of our "recruiting" money on the defense. Guys like the Peter bros were swimming in benefits when they came here.

I think Dylan will be back. Who is going to pay him high dollar when he's injured? Who wants him when he obviously has a deficiency in mobility and/or getting the ball out faster. (He can improve this by working on it.)

Dylan was better earlier in the year at getting wins.. yes the schedule was soft, but he did end up with more wins and a better % than TJ. And if Dylan returns, what of TJ? if these two don't coordinate, we also could lose both.. that's something not being talked about, bc TJ also has to make a decision and we don't know what Dylan is doing yet. I think Rhule will be begging for Raiola to stay.

Will Dylan be better next year? most likely, as he is going to make a jump too.

I really think the first half of the season was much more positive, and Rhule will want to return to that place personnel wise.

I think TJ is on the outside looking in, from coach Rhule's perspective.

In order to have a puncher's chance against the schedule next year, Dylan needs to make a big jump.

We are going to need a bell cow at RB to help him, like EJ did this year.

Preaching physicality and then not signing any DL ignoring the biggest weakness is peak Matt Rhule decision making.
It’s kind of hard to bag on Rhule too much if don’t know what goes on behind the scenes? Maybe he is trying to recruit and/or obtain o-lineman and d-lineman in the portal but just not getting any takers? 🥴

I mostly agree with your post but Iowa paid up for Gronowski with a shoulder injury. Dylan’s injury shouldn’t be a problem at alll by spring. Now that I think about it, I think Iowa needs another QB.
