I read that only 10 of 20 players signing LOI in 2017 remain. 50% is crazy. Plus we signed zero CBs and zero LBs that are still on the roster.

It puts into perspective the challenge Frost has, also taking over a team that was horribly out of shape.

Maybe he reconsiders Maryland which was rumored to be his destination out of HS.

Was never really here anyway. He looked disinterested during the spring game in my opinion.

The numbers for that year are staggering but maybe not unusual for the last freshman class of a lame duck coach? Who knows.

Anyway, probably best for all involved. At least Guy was smart enough to realize that leaving a team midseason serves no purpose. Now hopefully we're done with roster turnover for awhile and can just focus on S&C gains. Smokin

Rumored to be gone for awhile.
Seeing he wasnt on travel squad recently made me wonder, and I noticed McGriff’s jersey number change during a game but thought it might have something to do with special teams plan.

I hope we have a higher success rate for our better rated recruits panning out going forward under Frost.
So far Martinez and Washington are making that happen.

that is pretty crazy, but it's better to cut the cord now and bring in people who fit what Frost wants rather than wait another while they burn up space and a scholarship.

They might go on to do good elsewhere, but so much of college football is fit that I don't even question if they aren't here - Frost needs the guys who play how he wants and who totally buy in

At some point you really need someone to push you in practice and you're not going to practice as physically without depth.

It'll be nice when Nebraska has the depth to practice, and inevitably play, like the tough team they're going to be. I don't think it'll be a long wait.

Exactly. We may be able to field a team of talented starters, but iron sharpens iron and quality depth is a must for real success.

If I recall the 2011 class had a similar rate of attrition.

It’s amazing. That class was a monster class. Easily Bo’s best, and probably one of the top 5 classes signed in the past 20 years. Going back through commit lists, and this is completely anecdotal and flying by the seat of my pants, it seems only about 50% of any given class actually contributes in any significance can’t say. I guess that’s why Myer and Saban consistently oversign. They know 50% of any given class is going to wash out. If we ever want to compete on that level, we have to understand that and be willing to move on when it’s time.

Bo took a flyer on a lot of kids who were highly ranked but had some questions about their character or work ethic. Saban's wash outs would have started for Bo.

The Riley bashing gets old. I'm very happy with the current state of our program, but can we not have this as a knee jerk reaction to everything now that he's gone?
Those who couldn't stand Riley have the same gut reaction I had to Pelini after his true colors came out. They'll never forget that he had 2 losing seasons. I'll never forget the embarrassment Pelini caused NU and Tom.

And that Pelini left the next coach virtually no talent on defense and no depth at quarterback or offense line.

I struggle to think of anything more over rated than Riley's rep for recruiting, it flat out sucked. Bo was better, and I hate typing that, but it's true.

I don't know that you can say that yet. Riley was only here for 3 years, and recruited to 2 different systems than what is being played here now. You can't assume that the players that he recruited to Nebraska wouldn't have been good if they played in his systems, especially that 2017 class. Now if, in 3 years, the players that transferred out never accomplish anything, then I would agree. But as for now, IMHO it is too early to say.

Not true. There was plenty of QB depth, just not the QB depth to run what Scott Frost runs on offense. That isn't Riley's fault.

But once again, I must point out the hypocrisy of the Nebraska fan base. When Riley took over a roster with no depth at QB and OL, the issue was his to deal with. Many on here took exception to blaming Pelini for the lack of depth. But now, it's all Riley's fault. You simply can't have it both ways.

I was referring to Pelini, not Riley. I changed my post to clarify that.

I agree with this, sort of on a technicality.. both got decent recruits, but I think Riley's were more snowflake types than what Pelini recruited. We had lots of guys from Riley's classes that left because of the coaching change, but I also think the type of player was either some kid of a famous guy, or someone in the clan in CA, or that sort of thing. How do I put this into words? More prima donna types. Bo had guys leave here too, but I thought the recruits he had were a little tougher.. stronger mentality guys as a whole.

Yes, let's leave former coaches out of it. Thanks for the guidance.

It was in response to a comment just like what I'm saying right in this thread. Maybe that just flew over your head as you are part of the same pack.

Not really. At some point you just it go. That's what the greatest fans in the world do. You have been transparent about your dislike of his hire. I'll give you that. However, dancing on his grave is not needed.

I don't know what I expected when I clicked on this thread. I guess I'm mad at myself for not knowing it would turn into, "Coach X sucked at recruiting." "No, coach Y sucked at recruiting!"
