Looks like the young pups are finally turning into dawgs now! Impressive win over a Martinsville team who should make some noise in the 2a playoffs this year. Secondary needs a lot more work, but we'll see how they do when they visit The Ridgeway/Axton boys in The Hole in a couple of weeks. Forest had 2 TDs tonight and went over 1500 yards rushing on the year. Next week, he could get to go over 2000 against Bassett. Him and QB Sam Branch have a combined 20 RUSHING touchdowns since their week 3 loss to Glass. Totally different GW team from the past 3 years.

Think that win had a lot more to do with what Martinsville did not do than what GW did. Forest is putting up large numbers and Branch is serviceable but, competition is not near 4A playoff caliber. I would expect if GW makes the playoffs their wins will be equivalent to the number of home games they get at best.

I agree. The talent is there, but can't go up against a team like Woodgrove or Amherst or Salem and win with ZERO experience. Their better days are definitely ahead of them. You know you're headed in the right direction when people are talking more about the JV team than the varsity.

That might be a good game with them and MV. I think their JV only loss is to JF.

How do you think the magna vista game will go between you guys this year, would love to see you guys beat them once again..
I'm watching GW as we speak beat up on Bassett. I think it will be another classic. The way GW has looked over the last couple of weeks gives me hope that they can handle the Warriors and make a run to at least the 2nd round of the playoffs. I don't know much about MV, player wise but I know they have a hell of a program.

I watched the first half of Martinsville and Tunstall before going to GW last night. Mville, who both MV and GW beat, had speed and a lot of athletes. With that being said I think it will be a high scoring game. MV's defense isn't as good as it has been as is GW's. Both teams have playmakers in Perkins and Scales (MV) and Branch and Forest (GW) and both teams have a lot of hungry young players. This series should be good the next 6-7 years as both teams have some amazing talent in their feeder system. If I had to guess I'd take GW but 1-2 scores but you never know..MV has some very good receivers in Perkins, Kellum, and company so they could very well win by 1 or more scores as well.

MV doing what they do every year, getting better one game at a time. Defense definitely improved, very physical upfront, and dbs are playing better than at the beginning of the year. I think they have several ints the last 3 weeks. Cameron page went down last night with a knee injury, but dont know how bad it is yet. Offense is not blowing the cover off the stats book, but they spread the ball around and make plays in the air and ground. Chris scales is a hard runner and rarely goes down on 1st contact. My only concern right now is QB position.. austin perkins has been out several weeks with injury, sophomore akira greenfield has stepped up and took control of that role. Now that perkins is back, coach had been rotating in and out between the 2. I think greenfield already has over 700 yrds passing in few games he played and has a good chemistry with receivers. Hes not the fastest qb, but very hard to bring down, and stays calm in the pocket. Gw and MV will be a good test for both right before the playoffs. seminole district will be tough in 3a this year, but i wouldnt count the warriors out just yet.

Ridge98 I think you are dead on in the QB situation! I think at this point you leave Greenfield in to manage the game and work that Perkins kid into another support role. He played WR last year while backing up McGuire, and I think that is a great fit for him this year. I've watched his first 3 starts (1-2 this season) and see he doesn't run the read option very well as Greenfield (5-0 this season) is a field general running it. Greenfield at the helm I see a deep run in playoffs, with Perkins I don't think MV gets out of 1st round. Defense has really come along in that secondary...I see the DB's jumping routes and taking the football away. #25 Scales and #23 Akers have been playing well! #38 (I think his name is Armstrong) has been getting some picks and knockdowns. The D line is as good as last year, #32 Parker Reed has been making some big plays on that interior D line. #9 Scales and #8 have been meeting at the QB alot all season. LB position is abundant and good at MV...hate to hear that about Page! Offensively the team goes from avg with Perkins in, to a Juggernaut with Greenfield leading it. With Greenfield, it's like the same offense from the last 2 seasons is still there. He sees deep routes and reads the LB's and DE very well and makes great decisions. If anyone has watched this kid play...When he is flushed out of the pocket he is still doing his check downs before tucking it to run if his routes are covered! Terrific instincts! #25 Scales is as hard a runner as I've seen come out of MV...Period! Hard to bring that young man down and his field vision is amazing! Rupert is as physical a runner as you gonna see at picking those short yardage dive plays! I think MV found another weapon last night they were experimenting with in that backfield...I like what I saw but will need to see more snaps on that to see if it is sustainable! #2, #5, #6, #12 have been showing up at WR to play. Every time I think I've seen Favero's arsenal he brings out a new piece to display to the crowd! But key hinges on QB position and whom is under center IMHO for MV!

Just my opinion, but if Greenfield had of started against Dan River, JF, and Wm Byrd he might be 1-2 instead of the 5-0 against Mavahi, Patrick Co,Bassett,Halifax and Franklin Co. Again he has looked good for a soph but he hasn't beaten a murderer's row of teams. Having seen GW twice, If Forest gets half a step on you he's gone. Branch is really good at running the option and even though he doesn't throw much he is accurate when he does. Their D is probably where they are the weakest, but they still have good size and speed on that side of the ball. GW-MV should be a good game but after seeing both more than once, I'd give the edge to the Eagles, though it's very tough to beat the Warriors in "The Hole"

Thanks for the lowdown gentleman. I haven't seen MV in person but from what I've seen on hudl, they're much bigger than GW and their defense is a little better. I observed last night that GW stacked the box with 8 and I've heard they've been doing this all year. Against Bassett and Halifax, that'll work, but a team like MV? Heck no! Franklin Co and Tunstall both had 200+ yards passing on GW's defense, which is unheard of. They could do this in the past with Malik Clements and Tim Glass at safety, but they're just too inexperienced in the secondary this year. That'll be the difference in them being a final 4 team in 4a standing and a second round loss. If Perkins plays WR, I like MV's chances. I will say GW's RB is the truth! He can singlehandedly carry their offense. A lot like what David Wilson did in his senior year back in 08. CB/WR Henry Barley and QB Sam Branch are darn good too.
