For any of you planning to trek out to the Glen after the Gately game is decided, our game has moved over to the turf field at South.

We have played one game down there in 2012. The week after we played that game we watched GN play MC.

Field is in that bad of shape right now? Or are they worried that it would be torn up for the remainder of the season after all the rain on Saturday?

I'm sure the 3-4" that came in the last 48 hours contributed, but anyone who came to Duchon for week 1 or 2 knows that when tthat rack gets soft, even a little game day rain makes for a total mess.

I wouldn't say GW is worried about future home games and future field conditions. That would be presumptuous.

In 2012, we hosted a quarterfinal game vs Wheaton North that was an epic mud bath and resulted in a 3-0 final score. My guess is they are trying to avoid a similar situation.

Makes sense. I'm sure the powers to be at GW will point to this as a reason to put turf down there so they aren't moving home games, they can put turf down and still skip the lights for the neighbors. I'm not sure D87 wouldn't allow for the school to have two turf fields on campus though...

I had heard the reason they do not turf Duchon is because it is to susceptible to flooding. Something about having to raise the field up to make it worth it,

The location of the field at Glenbard West, in the flood plain of Lake Ellyn, makes it highly unlikely that a turf field will ever be built there. The heavy rains we have had over the last few years have caused flooding that covers the field with massive amounts of water. The rubber pellets in the turf would wash away whenever this occurs. Also, because the field is at the same level as the nearby road it would be difficult to raise the field level sufficiently. As a District 87 taxpayer, I would be reticent to support spending money on turf.

Good stuff here, I would agree with your points.

I guess it really comes down to which is more inconvenient; paying $Ms to engineer and build a workable solution of an artificial turf field 25 feet from a key waterway, or move your home games once every 3-4 years to a sister school.

My only hope/ request is that they bring in more porta-potties. In 2012, I remember the line being 30 minutes forcing many to miss the 3rd quarter.

I run by Duchon every day. I noticed a week or so ago that the center of the field looked different from the weeks before. Greener. Anyone know if they attempted to patch it? They also had the middle of the field covered the last few days until today.

I love Duchon, especially bc I walk there, but this is a smart move whether its not to make this a mud bowl or preserving the field. I hope for dryer weather for the playoffs regardless of the location or team. Rain really screws up games, leads to mistakes, and increases injury risk.

Looks like two straight road games for the Hitters to start the 7A playoffs.

FYI, Moline has previously defeated Glenbard West in the IHSA playoffs, so we better get out the old game film and use it for motivation.

In related news, Marian Central Catholic has requested first dibs to play any future game at GW when the field is under water.

Hey GE. Have you been around long enough to know whether said kicker in the article from GW is Tommy Schutt's dad? I know his name is Dave so I will make the leap in thinking Tommy was a 2nd generation Hitter.

McBain!!!! (Random Simpson's reference)

Just realized there is an outside possibility that GW will play consecutive games at Glenbards South, North and West for the D87 hat trick.

Or MC repeats 2012 and we all get the game we wished we could have had in 2012.

Checked the field today...no patching. Really wet and the grass is thin in key areas between the hash marks. The only solution to Duchon is to re-sod the entire field and play no games there for an entire season, which will never happen.
