Yes, we did.
We are stupid.
I can’t imagine this biz model lasting for long. UK has an athletic dept of over $150mm, doesn’t have to pay the players, can rip the fans/boosters for not “ponying” up when the team doesn’t perform, the people who do “pony” up gets 0% return (if I’m wrong here, call me out), the players can leave after getting their $$, etc, etc, etc.
Meanwhile, to maintain non-profit status, the schools do unnecessary facility upgrades, spend lavishly on coaches, spend lavishly on operating expenses, etc, etc, etc.
Great job by everyone in charge at the NCAA.
Also, since the players get paid now, is it OK to boo them? Was always told you can’t boo the players bc they don’t get “paid” which was laughable then and completely ridiculous now if someone was to have that same response.
I am a Stoops apologist. What he has done for this program was something I never thought I’d see. I set through a lot of ****** games growing up, watched a lot of games on tape delay where I knew we got waxed 65-7, and spent a lot of $$ on tickets, events, road games when I became an adult so to see where we are now will never not be amazing to me.
BUT, Stoops had a very bad week this week, arguably his worst week ever at UK. One thing he always had going for him was the fans were on his side. Comments like he made earlier this week is what someone says when he thinks he’s above the fans (i.e. see one, John Calipari).
My advice would be to shut up, get back to work, use the bench as a motivational tool, and have the team ready vs Tennessee.
