Tell you what I did love last year were the throwback CWS highlights, especially with the radio broadcast. Hope they keep that going.

Also, the new vinyl banner around the field does look sharp. They finally fixed that.

The Beans and I were just discussing via text about not having to take 30 minutes to hide airplane bottles in our clear purses. #blessed

Of course, I've got about a 2 drink limit or else I'll be drunk. :flushed:

Pretty sure I'd still smuggle in booze even if I were ever blessed enough to be Club. Dropping an extry $100 for in game drinks won't be in my budget if it's already drained from having said tickets. #OneDay

-Parents en-route to take me out for my birthday. Asked them their preference, of course. My super sweet but VERY blunt/outspoken mother sent me this text: We can go wherever you want, it's your birthday, but I'd prefer none of that fancy frou frou ******** you and Lauren eat every week if you don't mind. I'd actually like a Hot Brown.

:flushed:

Of course, I'd never do that anyways, don't want to break their bank as retired school teachers, and the In-Laws are coming as well, they're besties with my folks these days, which is actually pretty cool.

So, chains were out of the question, obviously. Struggled with a spot. Silver Dollar was a thought due to the country theme, but too loud. Village Anchor would work, but it will be SLAMMED and seems like it's in another state from where I stay. Ditto's? Nah. Did Cafe Lou Lou last year.

The winner is........THE BRISTOL (downtown location) :fire::fire::fire::oops:

Place is actually fine, think I've been there twice, non-brunch. Menu seems budget & fine, something for everyone. Plus, green chili wontons. And it's got some local tradition/flavor I guess. And they have a Hot Brown for the mother.

Could be worse, I guess. I'll make up for it with my real BDay dinner Sunday night.

Probably forgetting something perfect that would have worked, but I was up against it. Did Jack's with them 2 years ago, and felt a little guilty about the tab after everyone had drinks, despite it being pretty reasonable price-wise unless you roll with Steak (which I did, of course)

That's a LOT of money for the Beans to spend on 1-2Q per game, but I guess that's why they're the Beans.

My mom is apparently much like Richie and others who think fancy sounding restaurants must serve bizarre & overpriced ******** small food...which isn't the case at all 95% of the time around here.

Drinks aside, you can eat at Seviche, Basa, Varanese, whatever....for within $15-25 dollars of your favorite chain, unless you're somewhere going overboard with Prime, Lobster, Caviar, etc.
That's real money, I suppose, but worth it for the elevated food, atmosphere, and clientele.

Avg App + Churrascos Steak (huge) at Seviche = $49
Ahi App + Filet at touching OUTBACK................= $38

...or roll no apps like a non-fatty, and you're down to $7.

Look it up. OMG $7/$11 PRETENTIOUS.

--Most seem to think beer will be allowed sooner than later. All it takes is one major school/conference to lead the way...and apparently plenty are looking into it.

I'd just like to be able to buy 1-2 draft Miller Lites a half.

That's it. That's the list.
Bring back the passes they'd hand out to let you back in the stadium, walk outside to your buddy's cooler, have a couple ice cold collides, stroll back in with a wink and a smile, profit imo

WHY DOESN'T MITCH CARE ABOUT THE WORKING MAN

As if we didn't have enough to do while unpacking, the wife saw a Kentucky picture painted on barn wood at Local Taco and wanted to make one. So we had some fence pickets from our old house and I made a "canvass" out of them and she drew the state with a few rivers/lakes on it. We hung it over my bar last night. I think it really came out well and now people are wanting her to make one for them. Hell no. I have too many projects to do right now anyway.

In a similar vein, I'm about to start up the fabrication of mock-ups of a KY wall art price of my own (to be hung above the mantle).

It is made from 2" thick wood that has been CNC milled to show the individual counties. The top facet of each county cants in one of four different directions depending its alcohol laws: wet counties to the left, dry counties to the right, damp down, etc.

LOL at fru fru ********. That's awesome.

-I have no hate for Bristol. Green Chili wontons are worth the trip alone. I'm sure they're prepackaged frozen GFS products but they're awesome. Too bad you're not in Lexington. Only about 50 different southern comfort themed restaurants.

-$100 for beer? Kill 1 beer per 1/4 and you're at $30 bucks or so. And yes, like I said earlier, a cold *** draft beer at a live sporting event is about as close to heaven as it gets for me. Especially on a hot *** day. Actually giddy about it.

-So much for cruising through a comfortable easy afternoon. Turned into a bleh fest with the quickness.

Ok, refocus. Lessggggooo -> Friday. (go home, play with son, bike ride, tailgate prep, casual drinks, yippee, wake up, run, tailgate, game, CFB, gambol, draft beer)

Wasn't Bristol your fam's go-to Derby spot when you were just kinda rich, before you got WEALTHY rich? Their Wontons are actually scratch, it's their only claim to fame, pretty much...and copied all around town, (poorly).

-What's the go-to this year for when we're trying to jealously put down Anthony for being a pretentious bar-sitting indoor leather couch football watcher? That he's not a real fan, only there for the party & to be seen?

That's what I'm going with until the random day sometime in the next few years when he drops a few tix in my lap while he's overseas. It will be dope, then.

-I'm sad this 95 degree September day turned your "coast" day into a busy work-fest, Anthony. Hope you're okay.

Will say that while I'm not terribly excited about going to the UC game tomorrow night, I am looking forward to sitting outside, watching football, and enjoying some local crafties.

in an effort to sound sophisticated, and to flaunt his south end family's newfound wealth, anth used to say there were only two establishments in the commonwealth worthy of his patronage:

jos a bank

this was not only recent, but it is 100% true story.

Walked into Joella's on Frankfort Ave today wanting some hot chicken for lunch. Place was packed.

Didn't have the patience so walked out.

Will have to try on Sunday when I get back from Lex.

We're finally getting more options on the River with Doc's Cantina, the Craft Beer joint that Poe Properties is developing and Varanese's new seafood joint.

LE MOO opens in 2 weeks. Interesting to see how it is. Dude is sparing no change with the decor and cooking equipment. Excited to have a nice steak house that I'll be able to walk home from.

Too bad Wrinkle Wranch closed, Rich. You could have had an annual Jim Porter slumber party that would have been one of the EVENTS OF THE YEAR, and I'm being dead serious.

You get 20+ crew rolling in there, it could be as fun as anywhere, especially if all you had to do was walk next door and pass out on a floor.

RIP

And I love draft beer, but get real. Tight game with a buzz vs. LSU or whoever at halftime in 30 degree weather feeling cocky ballin in THE CLUB? I'm not drinking a draft beer. Learn KY. Gimme your best bourbon, thx, and one for Chad. And a half & half pinapple & grapefruit Grey Goose with splash of orange, soda, and Rosie's for my wife. Whatever ******** Deb just ordered, that's what she wants.

That's $60 right there.

Oh ****, where is Chad, I gave him my extra club pass?

(Anth: he lefty doggy, went to Tin Roof for 2nd half with the Beans)

-Seriously though, interested to see what these Club tix are going for on the secondary market this season & beyond. At some point may StubHub mine and get in there for a smaller premium than usual for a special game.

Waiting another two weeks to try Joellas for lunch.

One of the best parts about the job has been that I can eat wherever I want for lunch.

Couple of recs:
-The Post
-Four Pegs, good burger and fries.
-Zanzabar: had the plate lunch, it was ok as a blue collar plate lunch.
-Feast: pretty good pulled pork and mac and cheese
-Smoketown USA: food is good, owner is annoying.
-Grind: expensive, about 15 for a lunch but a great burger.

Shot a smooth 91 for my first actual round of golf at Lake Forest yesterday. Barring anything crazy, that's where we will be joining.

Had my balls snipped today. Plan is to milk it and watch college football and get caging up on Mr Robot.

We rolled into Jimmy P's about 5-6 yrs ago with Wodie, Ursch, Bonz, Jerry, Chad, and maybe BellyDancer. Everybody was having a blast understanding the novelty of the joint except for Chad. He was miserable.

Place had about 10 bars in one... Full band, DJ, and a lady in lingerie crooning on the swing... The works, really.

Jimmy P's was a bizarro world bar field trip.

Ten years ago and slightly (not greatly)out of context. I haven't shopped at either of those places in ages.

I just ran by and they were putting in some landscaping and the stage was set up for the big concert tomorrow. There is still some landscaping/concrete to be done by gate 1 and over between the red and blue lots. Not sure if they will have it finished it not, but everything looks great.

Man, Spring Valley in Lexington is a hidden gem. Feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, save for an occasional passing train. Old established course with fantastic playing surfaces. Shot 40/40 with three doubles. Hit every fairway on the back. I'll be a member there within two weeks.

Only downside is it's not a "country" club. No pool/tennis, etc. Just golf and regular card games/cigars in the clubhouse.

Actually, that's not a downside at all.

Jealous about you kids getting hype about the game. Wish I could give the big handshake hug to all those I've been cussing in GYERO for months. Love seeing guys like SAE, Richie, 73, etc after not seeing them for awhile.

Having fun down here in Va, doh. Williamsburg is a cool area- very Southern. Reminds me a bit of Pinehurst in that regard. William & Mary is right downtown. What a gorgeous campus.

If only Anth and BBdK acted more like their wonderfully downtoearth parents.

With dK on alcohol at Commonwealth. Doesn't bother me at all. I'm either drinking bourbon or enjoying my buzz and hydrating for postgame.

Speaking of which- anyone else tired of BBdK's backdoor ***-kissing of Anth? Wrong thread for that ****, hoss.

Cats by 20. Out.

Used to be Spring Lake Country Club. Pretty much grew up there in the summers, worked there through college as lifeguard/pool manager. Place was dope, absolutely loved it.

Then they sold it, paved the pool over...can't bring myself to go back and see it.

Sons of bitches.

Only downside to that is if the wife limits your time out there. Or she decides you all should join a place that has a pool.

Only Idle Hour and LCC seem to offer the full "country club" package in Lex.

Greenbrier has no tennis courts, and Andover has some but they look like an earthquake hit.

Yeah, those two places are full package. I don't have 20-40K just laying around tho.

KY Mid Am is at LCC, and may enter just to play it three times.
