What's the going rate on a gym such as LA Fitness or something similar as far as per month and initiation fees? I hate dealing with gym salesmen.

Depending on where you are, Planet Fitness will be the best price. $10 per month. with that, you can go to the one you sign up at. Or, you can pay $20 per month and go to any of them.

I'm asking for my girl. I told her Planet Fitness would be her best bet, but she wants somewhere with classes because women can't just hit the pavement.[eyeroll]

LA is probably between 30-40 per month with no sign up. They are always running specials. She just needs to call and see.

Just paid $300 for two years at LA Fitness in May. That may have been a grandfathered rate though since I've been a member for a long time and just renewed online. That might also only get access to one location.

Because I wanted to see what was available and what others were paying before dealing with gym sales guy.

Don't let her get a personal trainer:

Jimbo Fisher and his wife are getting divorced after he caught her banging her personal trainer, an ex UF receiver.

So you told her she needs to workout?

She lives in OTR which means if it gets too late, she doesn't need to be out running by herself. Plus, she wants to take some classes.

[laughing] @ Bob posting in a "gym thread."

You don't lose weight by posting in the thread. Sorry, Bob.

Elaborate, please. I don't use it but have a couple of friends that reall

In addition to what bbdk stated/linked regarding their business model, they also have a lunk alarm. Basically if you're lifting heavy (they don't actually have heavy weights) and exerting yourself, they deem it "intimidating to the other [fat] members" and actually set off an alarm to notify you to tone it down.

Honestly, if you just want to do cardio and throw in some accessory lifts, it's a bargain. I just can't stand how they take a gym and make it a hugbox for fatties.

I have a gym membership, therefore I may post in a gym thread.

Fanth is much nicer. Looking forward to your next "baby blowup."

I've actually heard that from a lot of people. Probably because my confidence is down.

It'll be because of winter, short days, no biking, football and basketball seasons. Oh and booze.

Seriously though. Go to your gym. Trying to be a friend.

Like everything else, you get what you pay for. PF is $10/month. You get sub-par equipment, and not much of it at that, they don't have barbell bench press and squat racks, they have nothing extra of real use.

Go to more of a "Fitness Club". It will be $25-50/month, with clean, state-of-the-art equipment, space, tons of amenities, classes and activities. They are always worth the additional cost, and in fact, that extra cost could be your motivation("Hey I'm paying, might as well go"). To top it off, the $10/month business plan attracts youths and college kids, (and poors)... People who WOULD grunt on equipment and have bodies that make you feel self-conscious, totally negating the product that Planet Fitness thinks it's selling.

Yeah, that place is a joke. All you can eat pizza or donut buffet every other day, among other things.

They basically want you to join, but NEVER use the equipment or go -- there are a few interesting articles about their business model out there on the internets.

What? This sounds amazing. Wow what a place. I don't get gyms, but I get gyms with pizza/donut buffets.

The lunk alarm (lol) is crazy though. People are awful. They should replace that with a buffet alarm alerting you when fresh product hits the bar.

Not sure what the prices are or how good they are in Cincy, but the Y here in Lexington is about $30-35/month. This month they're running a no joining fee promo and they don't require a contract. Plus they offer plenty of classes.

Thats what my friends are there for. Both come from families where diabetes is common so they just worry about their work. One did get the alarm once but thats their only complaint otherwise.

If you grunt and or drop weights you deserve to have a siren ring out. You should be embarrassed without the siren.

But going out at night in OTR would certainly help to get one's cardio in.

Unless you've held together pretty good yourself and get along really good with the girl I wouldn't suggest her working out.

She'll get hot again and be screwing someone from the gym.

YouFit is $10 a month for one gym or $20 for both. There is one on Nicholasville Road and one on Richmond Road. The one on richmond road has classes.

There are a few fitness places downtown, Snap Fitness, Mercy Healthyplex, etc. When I moved to Newport a few years back and was working downtown, I checked out most of them. Most are in the $50+ range, and don't have parking.

I ended up joining LA Fitness in Bellevue for $30 a month or something like that. There is free parking, but the gym gets really crowded on Monday and Tuesday nights especially. After work always has a crowd, but its unbearably crowded those two nights each week.

I go to LA Fitness - she can go to Oakley or Bellevue or even Kenwood. $30/month with no initiation should be the rate you pay.
