speaking of hell; if hell were the penalty of sin and Jesus' death was to cover said sins, death wouldn't be enough. In order for Jesus to cover the penalty of sins, He would have to be eternally punished.

Hell exists, but is more of a state of being than a place. And I feel that ultimately a good majority of people will avoid such a fate. The people who will experience it already live it while alive or have made peace with it (somehow) - I'm thinking some certain leaders of men throughout history and in general...

Organized religion is purely a method of control over the populace. I wonder if God will ask “did you believe in Me” or “did you show up on Sunday just so you can lord your self righteousness over others and get cookies after service”.
