When I was twenty I was obsessed by what other people thought of me.

When I was forty I didn't much care what other people thought of me.

When I was sixty I finally realized that other people were never thinking about me at all.

*I don't recall the origin of this insight about life but I think it is generally true.

It amazes me that minorities think that when they make an appearance somewhere, everyone in the room instantly notices them and think they are the topic of conversation in the room, probably the butt of jokes and possible objects of nefarious plots.

Ron sounds like a success story of having received no mistreatment. But, in hindsight, since all these other minorities got "mistreated" I must have been mistreated as well but didn't notice it at the time. This was just my perception and I may be wrong. If so, my apologies.

For the record I have always considered Ron an all right poster.

I was treated different too when I was young but mine was based on how I acted more than what I am. I think all too often these days people assume that the treatment they are getting is because of race, color or creed when it just could be you. Then, there are clicks of people who just don't like other people because they think they are better or, they are just not in the cool group. People with money (rich) often times act differently towards people with no money and ethnicity is not a factor for those acting this way. Way too thinned skinned these days and I am not talking about you. I guess that you dealt with your problems in a positive way given your previous post on this.

Agree whole heartedly. I will be turning 60 Aug 1st and I have gotten to the point that most of this crap just don't matter.

Liberals focus on the outlying racists issues instead of looking at the 99.9 percent of people that get a long with everyone. By focusing on the .1% of the issues they actually demean those that actually lived and went through a time were a much higher percentage actually faced real issues.

imo if you sit at home thinking about "how you were treated" you have a fkng mental disorder that is liberalism. You review every interaction you have with people and ascribe motivations to peoples' actions that could be do to a number of factors. But b/c of skin color ah ha that's got to be it. Couldn't be anything else.

I ended up out pounding the pavement looking for a job at age 55. Unless you have some special skill set that younger guys don't have (and everybody thinks they do - but probably don't), getting shuffled out in your mid fifties (they CAN find a way to do it) for a younger cheaper person is a real possibility.

I finally decided that a civil service job was my best bet. They cannot discriminate because of age. They post jobs, set up the testing and let the best test-taker beat out the competition. I had to beat out 72 test-takers but I did (humble brag). Got the job, stayed out of trouble and made it to retirement.

Yeah, I am working civil service at Ft. Sill Oklahoma for the LRC (Logistics Readiness Center) (DOL in the Past) in the transportation division. Was not a lot of call for a cannon cocker (Artilleryman) in the civilian sector. That is actually one good thing the government did way back when, setting up jobs for military personnel after retirement form the military. Worked for a contractor at first at Sill and after 7 years was ask to join the government side and work for the trans division and have been here ever since (12 years in August). Wife still works for the contractor here. I have set a target date of August 2027 for retirement for good. Will be 70 then and daughter Should be out of college if she goes. She is 11 now.

That being said, any company or HR person who discriminates against a potential well bodied employee because of age is an absolute scum bag, a rotten piece of ****, and I hope they burn in hell

Congrats!

<- - - - Also retired .mil. Spent 9 years thereafter in the tech sector. 8.5 more years for me until retirement, if no additional cuts occur at our agency. If so, then other opportunities are out there.
