Has the UK football program ever been so widely mocked and ridiculed?

In all my years (58) of watching UK play football I don't recall the "talking heads" from the nation's television media who cover college football speak so disparagingly about the University of Kentucky football program. The game announcers for the Kentucky v. Florida game were brutal. Throughout the game they made repeated references to Kentucky's ineptness. At one time, Gary Danielson, remarked, "After 4 years this is what we've got? UK fans have to be upset". Later, during the broadcast, when Danielson and Lundquist had run out of pejorative characterizations to describe Kentucky's pathetic performance, Verne Lundquist sarcastically pleaded with the people who were still watching the game to "send in some stories" with the clear implication that they had so exhausted their ability to describe the debacle they were witnessing that they were desperate for "filler material" Then, this morning, during ESPN's College Game Day, Lee Corso pronounces this year's UK football team to have the worst defense in the history of college football. I know UK has been awful for decades. I just don't recall the "talking heads" going after us like they have this year.

No, but as you well know, the media has very little caution about what they say. We used to at least get respect for our hitting back in much of the 60's and 70's, but we have little to brag about since Brooks except the play of a few individuals.

You forgot about the "Junior College" comment.
Simple fact is if you play (and coach) ineptly you will be labeled inept. Only one way to cure that.

No. In some of our other bad times, we didn't have a TV contract guaranteeing us nationally televised games every week.

Rob Bromley isn't going to be too harsh on the 11:35 tape delay.

Right now, there's more college football media than ever before ... and our program is a special kind of disaster.

Makes for a good target.

Social media/message boards don't help. UK with it's special brand of ineptness also figures in.

Back in the day media were nice to keep access. Now there is so much media and so much information that the fans know when someone is blowing smoke up their but. Therefore fans want the media to be truthful. The truth hurts in our case, because we suck. That's all this is.
