On the shape of the “pod” format once we depart to the sec sec ?
I believe that the OU, Mizzou, Pig, texsa makes the obvious geographical sense but am unsure of the parameters. Any thoughts ?

I think the pod concept depends on how many conference games they decide to play each year. The pod format would give them 9 conference games. Future playoff plans supports the 4 pod concept. This would rotate 6 and 6 out of pod games. 11 conference games is on the table also. East and West. Play 7 in your division and rotate 4 and 4 out of division. This gets iffy when we go to 12 team playoff. 11 conference games, 1 out of conference, 1 conf champ and possibly 4 play off games = 17 games! I heard they were looking at some form of flexible schedule that keeps the conference competitive. When I asked what that meant I was told that's the part being studied.

the "pod" concept floated by reporters in 2021 has been done away with and now it appears likely they will go to a 9 game sec schedule (one more conference game than currently) with each school having 3 "permanent" opponents, and six rotational opponents annually. this is different than a pod (texas, ark, ou, mizzou all together playing each other every year.) under what they are calling the "3-6" format. ou might have 3 permanent opponents of Texas, Ark, mizzou, while Texas 3 might be Ou , Ark, A&m, and Arkansas might have Ou, TExas, LSU. So you see there are no "pods. the design is intended to preserve rivalries the remaining 6 opponents rotating home and away and switching every two years would also allow for every team in the SEC to play each other both home and away over a 4 year span. its a pretty good model in my opinion.

The 3-6 concept is explained in this Tweet. These ARE NOT necessarily the teams we would play, they’re just one person’s hypothetical example. Not sure A&M wants any part of a yearly OU *** kicking. So, maybe sub Arky for A&M here:

I agree. Either A&M or Mizzou. Though Mizzou would more reflect our current easy early games.
