Follow up question.
Why is it the only call Stoops could make?

Some schools would not been a automatic suspension.

Hatcher has had suspensions and trouble off the field before. This was not his first offence, and I'm sure Stoops told him he had one more shot. Unfortunately, he appears to have used it.

Think it was Stoops only call because this makes multiple times Hatcher's been down this road. Don't know if it's this way now but a few years ago UT's policy was dismissal after a FOURTH offense.

Unfortunately Jason has multiple offenses. I hate it for him and for our program, but he has to learn a tough lesson and our program will suffer the consequences of his terrible decisions. It's a sad situation, but I respect Coach Stoops for his swift response. No need to drag it out. I hope Jason lands on his feet and makes wiser choices in the future.

Long overdue! And good riddance!!

After his "slap on the hands" suspension last year, I suggested that a forced redshirt year would be a more meaningful approach and would give the young man an opportunity to get his act together.

Instead, he missed a game or two, which clearly taught him nothing and in no way changed his privileged attitude. As a result, he ended up taking snaps from a player who could have used the experience going into this year.

Policy at UGA is 1st offense is 1 game, 2nd offense is 4 games, 3rd offense is dismissed. Its not a football policy its a UGA athletic policy. This can be caught with it, or a positive test, its all 1 column.

Good answers!
Sounds like he had several opportunities.

The link above gives all the sordid details.

At one time I had read that at Thug U it took FIVE offenses at to get banned, while it was TWO at Georgia and UK, and probably an infinite number at Transfer U, although it doesn't matter that much there, since most wouldn't be reported if inside the city limits. Quick is probably under city arrest by jurich.

I have MUCH less sympathy for a dealer than I do for a user. Unfortunately for our recruiting I think Quick made a wise choice when enrolling at City College, and I think this explains a lot about BP becoming a much better recruiter since his return to jurich's motley crew.

A big loss on the field (look at those arms that BELONG to UK's S&C program), probably addition by subtraction off the field.

Way to let your family, coaches, teammates, fans, University, and SELF down, what a waste.

Good riddance, glad we won't waste any more time and resources on him. Maybe he can get into Transfer U after he gets out of prison, at least he could become a supplier for their team.

I'm sure UK has a policy and Hatcher has blown through it.

He chose weed over football. That simple and that stupid.

He not only chose weed, he chose GREED, although everyone knows that drug use eventually drives most but the very successful to a life of crime.

What a waste of talent and likely future NFL career. Like to say I feel bad for the kid, but I don't. He's had multiple chances to get his head on straight and blew them all.

He was caught with a pound of pot. That's trafficking according to the article, I doubt that would be covered under "second chances" at least at UK.

I think part of the divide on the football team was because Coach Stoops coddled some players because the cupboard was bare and it cost him some respect. I am hoping that after three years, he has learned and has the talent to administer a heavier hand in regards to discipline. Next man up.

from what i read, he is facing 1-5 years in jail
being kicked off the team is the least of his worries
the young man has a lot of talent, i hope he gets things lined out in his life and gets the chance to go to the NFL

Make no mistake, Hatcher was a future NFL player with elite quickness. He was a MAJOR part of our defense this coming season. He played very well in most games last season. This is a HUGE loss to our defense and we do not have anyone to take his place adequately next season.

Stoops had no choice, but to dismiss him. This really bites. Hatcher was huge for this upcoming season. With our major problems on defense last season, you just cannot lose players as talented as Hatcher in the SEC. I cannot believe this crap. What a blow to our defense.

No doubt. Hatcher's problems are due to the fact that he is at Yewkay where there is no control and an anything goes mentality. Remember James Quick, his buddy, almost got in some trouble too a ways back. Guess who he was hanging with at the time? You guessed it, Jason Hatcher. Lucky for James, he cut ties with Hatcher and is in a tough disciplined athletic program where these and other shenanigans are not tolerated. Had Quick ended up at sUcKs, I have little doubt he'd be in the same boat as Hatcher. That should be a lesson for future recruits.

Everybody knew this was coming after the arrest. no other choice for Stoops plus more than likely he will be spending some time in jail (prob 6 months) then probation for several years.

I thought he was a really bright kid that made a mistake or two but finally got his act together. I also thought he was going to be a tremendous football player with the potential for an NFL career. I was wrong. I'd like to think he'll get his act together some day but I can't say I feel sorry for him. He must be a complete idiot to screw his life up with the gifts he was given.

None of that relates to a felony drug charge much less a trafficking - get facts straight before posting about UGA especially on another teams board please.

We haven't kept anyone on a team after felony drug charges grumpy.

agreed, I thought Hatcher would have been one of our top 3 defensive players this season and definitely play in the NFL.

Good riddance, he was never here to play, just to have a good time, it's obvious. As far as a talent wasted, I never saw what he could do anyway. Lets see what someone who can follow the rules can do now, we are much better off with people who want to be there and play.

gee which side is trying to turn this thread into a drug policy debate

ounce or more should result in being kicked off the team, even if it's the first discipline issue. it's not the same thing as a hot piss. you have a greater responsibility than joe schmo to avoid this kind of fiasco, so even if marijuana should be legal (which it obviously should), you can't be out there slinging to your friends and expect to be part of the program after getting caught

and is some guy out there whose initial reaction to this is to go on a tirade about drug policy substantively similar to cops and administrators covering up sexual assaults for wins on saturday? no

He's probably already in the team picture.

He's probably already a team captain. Heck, LB Fields was charged in a home invasion and assaulted his girlfriend. A little weed, Hatcher is in the clear at UL.

I was really hoping he had made a turn around in his life. He had so much going for him coming out of high school. Some people never seem to learn any life lessons along the way. He can not say that coach has not been fair to him. He was given more chances than maybe he deserved, it's not for me to judge. GBB

oh please, we haven't had anyone arrested for felony charges, very few arrested for having it. Nothing I said was wrong and nothing made UGA look bad, one of the toughest policies in the country. So calm down

Thought I'd start a new thread since the other one was devolving into the pros and cons of pot legalization etc.

Stoops made the right call - the only call he could make, really.
100% correct OP. This is an easy one with no debate IMO. Stoops obviously worked hard to give him chance after chance to prove he could overcome but he chose not to. Lingering problems like this had as much to do with the teams struggles as anything. Time to set the tone that if other things are more important than your commitment to the team you're a distraction and you don't belong.

No shock, not his first time in trouble and this is a felony charge. Can't believe he was dumb enough to risk an NFL career over a couple grand now.

This is not a huge loss. People including me were expecting a ton out of him last year and look what happened. It was just a matter of time for him. He would have never made it through the season and would have put this team in a bind just like he did last year.. He did this team a favor by getting arrested when he did. At least the other guys will now take his reps in spring and fall practice. He's never been reliable.

So he's driving up on 64 at 1:00 am on a Monday, with a Pound of Weed and some other drug paraphanalia ? And he has 8:00 am workouts ? And he smells like reefer ?

Come on, even if it's his first issue that's bad enough. Selfish kid if you ask me...yes it's a blow to the team ....Stoops has got to be tired of dealing with this crap
