By going to a zone today, he limited AWhite's driving ability and effectiveness in transition, and he eliminated teams dragging Olah out to the top of the key and penetrating into the key. Also, it took away Gesell's ability to penetrate and pass or hit the 10-15 foot jumper. Olah at the base of the 2-3 kept White, Woodbury and others from driving for easy baskets, and forced Woodbury to make free throws. Woodbury failed to do so, opening the way in overtime for us. The one guy it didn't stop was Uthoff and his deadly shooting. Uthoff is a terrific shooter.

This was a great team win with everybody who played contributing nicely. Lumpkin didn't have any points but he played one hell of a tough game on defense being a PITA and frustrating Woodbury. I thought Woodbury would snap a few times in the game. Olah was terrific in the middle on defense with 5 blocks and 13 rebounds.

Sure looks different than having Michael Thompson back there.

Everyone knew the wildkittens were gonna get their asses kicked a lot this year, but in spite of the devastating losing streak in the conference, CC has kept them competitive and finally taught them how to win. A lesser coach would have been crushed by the experience and started to plan for next season.

I loved the post-game interview with Demps telling the world, "We can beat anybody." Overcome with euphoria, no doubt, but great 'tude. During the recap, we finally got to see the locker room after the Iowa win. They LOVE it.

I couldn't be happier to have CC. There's little question he has what it takes and if he can just recruit another strong player or two, I'm confident he can build a winner at NU as early as next season. During the post game interview, he said something like, "I'm so proud of these guys." I think all of us are really proud of these guys and the coach.

GO WILDKITTENS!

Glades, gotta hand it to you.

You know how we like to use "Io_a", showing the missing "W". But you are giving us another spin on that: "Colins" with the missing "L". After reading, marking, learning, and inwardly digesting it, I deduced the meaning behind it. In that "aha" moment I realized you are declaring to us that CC is all about getting rid of "L's".

You even disguised it, made it more subtle (as is your nature) and original by not using "Col_ins", which would have been borderline trite.

Brilliant.

So, if it's spelled Cris Colins, that means we won, but he had the H scared out of him.

I think Collins has routinely outcoached Richard Pitino in their three meetings, even if NU lost the only meeting thus far in Evanston. Minnesota has an athletic advantage and forces a lot of turnovers and NU has done well to neutralize these efforts.

It bodes well that he's done so well against the only other coach in the conference with a similarly small amount of head coaching experience.
