Have we heard anything on Joseph’s draft decision?

By all accounts, his 2021 was considerably less exciting than his 2020 season.

His stock appears to have dropped from a possible first rounder into a day 2 pick, which isn’t the worst.

Has there been any indication as to how he’s leaning, or a definitive statement either way? I sure wouldn’t want him to be JON’ed out of here.

He could, but unless his testing is off the charts (a possibility, but generally that isn’t the case for most NU prospects) I’m not sure he’d project any higher than a day 3 pick.

Still, if he is thinking the defense won’t rebound under O’Neil’s leadership/bad scheme fit going forward, might be the best option, assuming his priority playing football at the highest professional level. Starting the clock early for the second NFL contract can be a wise decision.

Ultimately, none of us have a clue. There are plenty of good reasons to stick around Evanston, several of which go beyond the gridiron.

Best of luck to Joseph with his decision (if there is one to be made).

He would be a fool to leave coming off of his play this season. 4th or 5th round pick at best vs. a chance to come back and reestablish himself as a first round pick. The monetary difference is significant.

A scan of draft sites pretty consistently puts him 2nd or 3rd.

Example, from today: 48th overall, #6 safety


Certainly, some people here thought Newsome was foolish, but he was right.

I hope he stays, really. But I think he might portal outta here to rebuild his rep. One more year at a school with a defense could mean millions

That's based on last year. Most of Those sites don't do any actual scouting. They base those ratings based on consensus from NFL scouts. When scouts start filing their updated reports for this year his ranking will drop significantly. He was not good this year.

Newsome submitted his name after last season to the NFL draft committee to get direct feedback and made his decision after that. My guess is that Joseph will do the same later this year but I don't expect he will get feedback that is as positive.

If he has his NU degree after 3 years a la Newsome, or can complete it soon… if I were him I’d go pro.

He has pure speed as Genyk revealed against Eastern Indiana, and showed what he can do with a competent DC in 2020. And JON is clearly out of his depth as a DC at any level.

Why risk a McGahee-type injury with one more year in college. Especially after he and all the returning defenders were betrayed by a buddy hire in 2021.

Go pro young man! Crush the combine.

Yeah Ok. He was not a consensus first rounder based on one season of play in the eyes of anybody who actually knows what they are talking about. He was a POTENTIAL first rounder IF he had another good season, which obviously did not happen. The consensus going into the season was probably top 50-75. Based on the way he played this season, I doubt he is on anybody’s top 100 list.

I would pretty much recommend that anyone that can go in the first 4 rounds goes!

Why do you even bother debating corbi anymore? I could pantomime his responses at this point. He’s a certified couch coach who thinks he’d have been the next Lombardi if he had tried his hand at coaching. He learned everything he knows from TV and his buddy who’s a peewee league coach. Don’t bother.

Right back at you. Call me up when that guy actually is in a position to draft a player. I am talking about the guys that count, the actual NFL GMs and scouts. If he goes pro, it will be because of feedback they provide, not some guy that comes up with his lists by doing his research online. That’s the equivalent of offering HS recruits based on star rankings.

One explanation could be he's taking a moment to talk to agents, advisors, etc. to get a sense what his stock would look like. If he's seriously considering it, that's obviously the smart play.

PFF didn't have him as one of the top 8 safeties in the conference, his year was so down. This roughly meets what my eyes saw on him too. IMO him leaving would be a mistake, or at least extremely risky, but what do I know.

He never played football. He was a softball player at a small high school from what I can remember.

My opinion is based on actually having watched him play almost every snap he has taken in college football. You are sadly mistaken if you think most of the sports writers who churn out these mocks once every couple of weeks are basing it on any opinion they formed from actually watching these guys play.

Ok, you are right. As far as Joseph, ned said the posters should be asking where will he transfer as opposed to nfl draft chatter.
Seems as if Mr Fitgeralds pal hire has reduced Josephs nil potential down to a used car salesman gig at some local shop.
