Have you or anyone you know been diagnosed with something you've never heard of before?

About 6 years ago I was diagnosed with Osteomyelitis, which is a bone infection, of my spine. Ended up the infection inside my vertebrae was MRSA. Because of where it was, they couldn't do surgery. So I spent 194 days in the hospital, and had 18 months of IV antibiotics twice a day. During that time it also infected my pelvis and femur. They were able to go in through surgery and drill holes in my bones and drain the infections of those two areas. I'm damn lucky to be here, but the damage done to my spine is irreparable. I went from being strong as an ox, to not being able to pick up more than 10lbs. But I'm still kicking and absolutely thankful for it.

If you expect to go to a hospital and have them promptly and accurately diagnose diseases, especially rare ones, then you have a lot of faith in your fellow man. If you also expect to be prescribed the most effective medication/medications the majority of the time then you are a very optimistic man.
This is true. A friend of mine started losing her balance and having headaches. She thought she had an inner ear infection until she woke up one morning and couldn't walk. Had CT and MRI scan that shows a growth in her cerebellum, but they can't determine what it is. After 8 wks, she still can't walk and has slurred speech with double vision. Doing a PET scan next week.

PCT.....took them 3 years of treatments before they figured it out. The treatments did more harm than the disease. Only thing they can do for me is to take blood every month. Can't donate it and have to pay to have it removed. No biggie, I just tell everyone I hit the lottery backwards.
