It’s been a while since losing a game really bothered to me. I have been around long enough to see us lose in every imaginable fashion possible. In the process, I have become more or less numb to the losing. Last night, man… The killer is that LSU is not even a good team. The big fear factor of playing in Baton Rouge at night never materialized because the crowd wasn’t really that into it. LSU’s offense did nothing of consequence to beat us. Their defense, as good as it was, allowed us to move the ball. We just freaking killed ourselves with stupid penalties. Without the false starts we win that game.

It really bothered me as well. There's no excuse for all those penalties. Unfortunately we'll have one sorry *** record when the season is over. Slowly but surely I'm beginning to see that Beamer is not the answer. But then again, this IS Carolina football.

I too was really disappointed. I don’t understand why we got away from the running game. Granted the penalties made it third and forever several times. It looked like they were expecting Sellars to win the game by himself. As great as he is, we simply couldn’t protect him in the pocket.
I knew winning at night in Death Valley was a long shot but we certainly had our chances. It’s clear you cannot win in the SEC with 10 to 15 penalties per game.

I went to my first game on November 2, 1963, in Columbia, to see Carolina play a Tulane team coming in with the longest losing streak in the nation at 17 games. The final score was Tulane 20 - Carolina 7. My friend, you have nothing on me when it comes to being a long-time suffering Carolina football fan. I was too stupid to take the hint and sign to become a fan of another school. Oh well.

You must be about my age. (71) I attended my first game in 1968. These younger guys don't really know what it is like to be a suffering Gamecock fan.

73.

I went to my 2nd game in 1966. I don't remember who we played. A family friend took me to the game to see their son play. I won't say who the player was because he might be reading this board and some here might recognize the name. We lost that game. We went towards the locker room, after the game, to see and talk to their son. I will never, never forget what that player told his parents. EVER!!! He said,

"I'm sick and tired of losing".

You answered your own question.

It was the penalties. We don't have the offense to overcome 1st and 15. Other teams do, we don't. A 5 yard penalty is a death blow to Mike Shula's offense.

Same here. I was a freshman in 1965 and resulting in being a "long-time suffering Carolina football fan" It's time to get excited about another new coach and still be be "a long-time suffering Carolina football fan". Other than that, I'm a postive guy.

Most D-1 defenses are a death blow to Mike Shula's offense.

I became a Gamecock fan after moving to SC in 1982. Dad, the Carolina grad had just purchased 6 season tickets when they built the east upper. I guess I've seen the best Gamecock football in their history. Which includes an 0-21 streak.

I just can't escape the thought that we would have easily won the game if we'd only committed fewer penalties.

LSU had two big turnovers inside the ten yard line. one of their receivers dropped a bomb from their QB around the ten yard line also. 20-10 was a gift for the gamecocks.
