so listening to the players at the press conference, each made it a point that they didn't give up? They'll keep fighting and working hard the last two games?..if they were seriously giving it there all, I think the university should spend money on a team psychiatrist instead of paying someone insane money to teach them how to tackle flag football style, or rugby or whatever the heck you call that whiffing shiznit!
Its really painful to see these kids just quit when there is no one on the sidelines that has an ounce of fire in them to get their troops fired up for battle! Just sad!

This is spot-on. Every player on defense plays on their heels. Disgusting

Thing is, I don’t think when you “quit” that you always know that you’ve quit, and you certainly would never tell the media that you quit when you’re potentially angling for a job in the NFL or with the next staff.

Mostly “quitting” just means not flying around with reckless abandon, not gang tackling, missing assignments, etc. if this game was the difference between a team playing for a west title, you can bet the team would have played differently. But they just don’t know it.

If Diaco truly wants success at Nebraska, he needs to ditch the dress shoes, put on work boots and patrol the sidelines with some fire..passion!

But Diaco is the best coach on campus according to Eichorst.
He wanted coaches from other sports at NU to go watch how he teaches during practice according to the new Barfknect column. That tells how much Eichorst was out of touch with reality.

Exactly why the D coordinator needs to be in the trenches with his men! They need a leader in their ears all game long!

Practice is great and all..but what the hell he doesn't do during games is a huge reason why these 18,19 and twenty year olds don't realize their effort sucks! They need to have a fire lit all game long!

It all starts at practice in any sport. Diaco is a complete fraud pushed on Riley by Eichorst. Riley would have been better off keeping his buddy Banker. Anything Eichorst did with the football program only made things worse.

These guys are coached by a staff that hasn't held them accountable and up to the standard it should be. Just imagine Meyer or Saban coaching this bunch. Plus, these guys will never pull a Corey McKeon and admit that they aren't having fun or have given up. They know that it could cost them a spot on next years roster or in the CFL.

College football coaches put 50+ hours a week on just game preparation. Watching film, preparing practice, and coming up with a game plan that matches the opponent. I feel that Riley gave his staff the week off, and they were not prepared for Minnesota whatsoever. Players had no confidence that the plays being called were correct...they did not understand the routes being run, the misdirection, and play action calls. Players were stuck one on one too often, which is case when the team doesn't understand what the other team is trying to do...there is no such thing as base defense and react in college football...players are reading keys on every play, looking for subtle tips that allow them to predict the play, and attempting to get to a position, rather than chase the offense. If a team is unprepared they give up 56...and then effort comes in when you are down by 4 scores. Remember when route matching was a treated like a new thing...no it is what every team attempts to do...study the offense, and call defensive sets that match what the offense is doing on every play. Great coaches are obsessive and put in huge hours. If they take a week off, so does the team. There is a reason when coaches retire they talk about finally seeing their family...

I bet John Cook sprinted right over there to get some pointers from Iaco (no 'D')

Call I what you will, but the bulk of that defense did NOT show up for the game.

If you didn't show up, I suppose technically you didn't "give up".

By the end of the game, we were giving up sacks to a prevent defense running a 3 man rush.

Not sure what else someone would call that besides "giving up".

Not sure, but I think those guys have decided they aren't playing for BD anymore.
