Hear me out: Shawn Elliott for interim OC

Firstly, I don't think Elliot is a good long-term answer. BUT...

I think someone said he was co-offensive coordinator during those 11 win seasons. Also, if you consider that he's running the offensive line then he might be able to draw up plays that will best protect Lannoris and play to the offensive lineman's strengths. I kind of feel like making some minimal adjustment to some of our plays that would have virtually the same wide receiver concepts but have sellers boot out to one side or the other would be helpful.

I think having an offensive coordinator at least in the interim who knows our players and their strengths would be somewhat beneficial. I don't think Elliot is the long-term answer though

He was a run game coordinator under Steve. Shawn knows his running game, but that's just a portion of the big job.

I’m fine with it for the remainder of the year, but not the long term answer. I definitely agree with the rest of you on that point. Need a guy who knows what to do with a dual threat QB. Woods and Noland are waiting in the wings after Sellers is done, whenever that is. RPO’s, quick reads, and misdirection need to be key elements. A Baylor type offense that Broyles ran. It looked like smoke and mirrors but they could also run it straight at you. Defenses never knew what was coming next.

I suppose it's fine for the remainder of the season as it's a lost cause anyway. Elliott would be a horrible OC hire, but he can't do anything to break this offense. My only fear is that the offense would accidentally show a pulse in the final 3 games and Beamer would make him permanent OC.

Just curious as to who would be a good OC hire. If Elliott is the interim and does well why wouldn't he be considered for next year? Hiring a young guy from a smaller conference or an older former head coach would both be risky. We're probably going to lose some current players to the portal and some recruits because of our record. Continuity would help with that issue. It sounds like some of you just want to scrap it all and start over again. Maybe you're right but I don't think that will work right now with four SEC head coaching jobs currently open.

No. He's never been an OC before. He was co-OC here with SOS, but that was mostly a title. Even so, that was over a decade ago.

We absolutely HAVE to have someone who has a track record as OC in college. Can't mess around with this hire. If he promotes Elliott to permanent OC, he might as well turn in his notice.

OK then give me a name. I'm happy to agree with you once you tell me who you want. The problem with many on this forum is they tell us what is wrong and who is to blame without giving a solution. I know it's fun to criticize and arm chair quarterback. However, some of us are looking for valid solutions in the form of a viable candidate.

That's a silly request. You're only naming Elliott b/c you know the name. Between G5 and FCS, there are a lot of OC candidates out there. I don't have to have a specific name in mind to know there are better options than Elliott.

What is there in Elliott's track record to suggest he'd succeed as OC? Knowing his name doesn't count.

Even looking at Elliott for permanent OC is wasting valuable time. A lot of schools programs are going to be rebuilding their staffs. Beamer should have already started looking at and evaluating external candidates.

As far as I'm concerned, every offensive assistant currently on staff is guilty by association.

Off course not! I'm just asking the forum who would be a good choice.

Given the scarcity of players we had in 2015 I thought Elliot’s offense after he took over was pretty decent. Fans hold the Citadel game against him and that puts him in Cremins jail.

Having said that, I’d like to explore other options as well, but knowing they would be short term if successful. Such is life as a Gamecock.

Thank you! See; that wasn't so hard, was it. Also, someone suggested Drew Cronic from Navy on another thread.
The key is will these guys come to South Carolina.

It wasn't hard. Which makes me wonder why I had to do it for you, when it was right there on the front page, and from the very same poster you were pestering for an answer.

Oddly, he immediately acknowledged that he already knew others had brought up Cronic's name, yet he said he needed to hear a name other than Elliott.

With his career on the line, Elliott to OC would be the most comically suicidal thing Beamer could do.

With the current timing, he makes sense as the interim OC for the remainder of the year.

NOT as the solution for next year.

Im not sure what the point was of demanding names when you'd already provided them.

I was just wanting to avoid a page of posts about "you still haven't given a name".

Yes, I suppose someone has to do it, so I'm fine with interim. My fear is the offense will show a pulse in our last 3 games and he'll get the gig full time.

Its been said, but that would strike me as a very Shane thing to do.

Has Elliot failed in the NFL? Because then that'd be a real concern.

One major drawback is that it would generate zero enthusiasm in the fan base. I think fans are ready to see an overhaul of the offensive staff. Elliott would most likely keep the current staff intact. I know Shane's all about continuity, but what good is continuity when what you're trying to continue from sucked?

We just need to fully cleanse our palate on the offensive side of the ball.

I agree. I could see the "keeping current recruits" reasoning being thrown out to argue for continuity, but that holds less water in today's NIL world.

I think a full flush is in order.
