Explain how your views weren't respected again. I'm confused.

Here's my deal with Tiger....I was never a fan back in the day. I'm not really one today....but I definitely caught myself pulling for him all weekend. He seems to have made some changes in his life. On the surface, he comes across as a better person than he did 10 and 20 years ago. Is it all an act? Entirely possible....my personality lends itself to giving him/others the benefit of the doubt, because that's what I try to do with people. Sometimes it will get us all burned. Plus, Tiger moves the needle and it's good for golf.....and I like golf.

I didn't feel disrespected. Then again I'm 100% Irish and cannot be offended!

Yeah @hart2chesson, I’m not seeing where anyone’s views are being disrespected. No one has name called or anything like that. Not even tried to shut anyone down. Simply expressed our views on Tiger, forgiveness and rooting for greatness. Those are the reasons certain people have expressed for choosing to root for Tiger. I’m not sure anyone has said, “you need to root for Tiger or else.”

It’s the same thing that happens when someone brings up an unpopular opinion about Duke players or coaches. There may be some dumb banter at times, but if you filter that out, typically it’s just debate. My view vs. yours. That’s the spirit of a messageboard.

Wasnt singling you out Hokie, just thought a lot of preaching was going on about why we should like Tiger. Again not singling you out- I do however have a problem w/someone suggesting racial overtones. Thats just irresponsible....OFC

I'm genuinely interested why people rooted for Tiger before his demise. By the late 90's & early 00's Tiger clearly had no interest in acknowleding fans or giving any insight into his life. From a brand perspective I found Tiger to be flat out boring and unlikeable.

Not being a wise guy, how do you "live and die" with a guy who avoided signing autographs for HIS fans at every tournament? He cared about no one.

Possibly greatest golfer in history but hard to believe people rooted for Tiger due to likeability. So it's the winning I assume.

All of us have reasons for why we like or dislike someone. They're not mutually exclusive.

For example, I don't see how anyone could find Tiger to be boring....today or 20 years ago. He transcended a sport. IMO, that's not boring. Also, behind the scenes he came across much more unlikable. On the course, he was maybe the most charismatic player ever. In some respects, he made golf popular....especially among minorities and in the inner-cities.

True, on the other hand does a leopard or in this case a "Tiger" ever really change its colors? As I said we're about to find out if he can handle yesterday's success. I hope for his sake he can, and doesnt hurt anyone else or himself.......OFC

I felt the same way. Which is why I deleted that post and poster.

You said “mods.” I’m one of them and defended my stance on Tiger. Just clarifying. I’m done.

For me, it was just about acknowledging greatness. He was taking the game to levels it had never been, and I wanted to see it.

The 5 Point Play Podcast never sleeps. Got a good one coming for the recruiting news this week. OFC’s will really get a kick out of it.
I wish my drive to work was longer than 10 minutes. That’s the best time for me to listen, but I can’t start and stop like that. So, I just end up rocking out to some Taylor Swift...I mean Eminem and AC/DC.

Really? He’s one of the most charismatic athletes ever in a sport that had a history of being a bit stuffy. He’s also done more for his sport than any athlete ever, IMO. I’m 32 so when he was at the height of his career I was a teenager. I never played golf and never had any interest in the sport altogether. He legitimately sparked my interest in the sport, both watching and playing. He was the coolest thing ever for the longest of times. I get it, a lot has come out since then. And I don’t agree with a LOT of his personal life choices. But who am I to judge someone when I’ll never get to walk an inch in his shoes. I have no comprehension whatsoever as to being the type of celebrity he both was and is. I think we as a society judge athletes far too harshly. We see the fame, the money, but we have no idea what it is like to live their lives. I would like to think I wouldn’t have made some of his decisions no matter what was going on in my life, but again I’ll never know so I won’t judge too harshly.

He’s also battled a lot over the last decade. Whatever sins you believe he’s committed he’s paid a pretty steep price, especially if you believe in karma. And he seems to have come out the other side better than when he went in. And yes, I can compartmentalize athletes and other celebrities between why I root for them and what they do in their personal lives. I don’t need to approve of them as people to root for them in their professional lives.

So in all, I understand why some people don’t like Tiger. But he’s done a lot for me and given me so many positive memories that I root for him both on and off the golf course.
