a bit of noise coming out of the south, supposedly FSU very unhappy in the ACC

OF course, there are two possible landing spots, SEC and the Big ten, if anything were to happen

at minimum, the fans appear THE least happy, their discontent might not result in anything

They should be in the SEC
that would be the most logical destination, providing Florida does not cause a block of it somehow....someone pointed out that there are several states with multiple SEC teams already

trickle down effect...... FSU to the SEC, shakes up other ACC teams, then possibly the long rumored UVA, UNC to the big?

or then again, nothing at all....but there is an active discussion on this now

UF will not block it
They sponsored FSU to the SEC back in the early 90's

FSU and Clemson to the SEC announcement will be just a formality … no one wants to be the ones holding up an entire conference on their own. You want to be among lots of company.
It's 50/50 re. FSU's destination amongst the power brokers
Clemmy is all SEC

Don't Big 10 schools have to be somewhat academically oriented, or have we given that up?

I mean, everyone in my family went to UF. I went to Rutgers. I had a cousin who went to FSU and we used to just tell people it was because she was retarded.

I'll believe it when I see it. Same old same old...lots of noise but nothing happens. Let me see when someone gets over the GOR with a decade plus on it. Near the end of it maybe, with this much time on it, I highly doubt it.
I'll say it again, when Nee talks, there's generally smoke

He's never been bullish on the early exit
He is now

My initial prediction was 2-3 years for FSU to be out of the ACC
They have to inform the ACC by 8/15 if they're out by 2024

Will be an interesting few weeks for sure

FSU has come leaps and bounds academically from where it was to where it is now
It's not Ivy, but it's solid

No argument here on UF being a better institution
They're world class, top 5/6 public in the country

In fairness though, they do love their jean shorts, mullets, gross colors and the strange looking weird gator chomp motion... but academically, they're top notch

I don't know who the heck he is and don't care. I'll believe it when I see it. As far I know, it could be just click bait and to drive traffic. What's the avenue he puts forth to get out of the GOR this early? Or does he not conveniently mention that?

Like I've said before as well, I'll wait for mainstream CFB media to report such things than I can believe there could be some truth to the info. These other sources are mostly clickbait and just throw anything and everything out there, some of which does happen but that's just a clock being right 2 times a day.

It could totally be click bait and traffic

Or, he could be a reputable contributor on the other site, who's pretty clued in on the happenings of all things Tallahassee (spoiler - it's the latter)

I guess we'll find out who's right and who's not. When I made my initial prediction, I merely went off info I've heard from people who are clued in

The fact that he's going on record has not gone unnoticed by those who follow this, and is in line w/the info I've gotten

And what's the avenue to get out? Are they going to notify the ACC they're leaving and sue? What happens in the meantime while that is being fought over? And what conference is going to take a school in the middle of a legal battle?

Putting that out there and not having answers to these basic questions is click bait.

Short answer is it's complicated - they'll likely be lawsuits, money exchanged, deals made, etc.

There's another site with a reputable poster who has explained it in detail (out of respect for Richie et. Co., I won't mention the site)

All I'll say is the people I've spoken with, coupled with Nee and a few other notable writers on different sites, podcasts I listen to, etc. are all singing the same tune

And if they're singing it, being more clued in then I am (working close to the university, being big money donors, etc.), then it's music to my ears

I understand you're fan of FSU so of course you want to believe.

I'm just impartial. I like realignment and sports biz talk so I look at things from a step back and neutral position. I don't find it realistic with so much time left on the GOR.

What's the deadline then for informing the ACC to get out in your 2 year timeframe?

We’re coming guys. Been saying it. UM to the B1G within the next two years. Once that GOR is broken, we’re gone.

And it will be to the B1G…. Somebody call Mr TV.

Of course I want to believe

More importantly, those I speak with who admittedly know more, and are more connected / tuned in, coupled w/Nee and a few others, are the ones who are in the know, and who gave the initial 2-3 year timeline

The GOR is absolutely a monster and I'd never pretend to know it all in regard to that, nor understand all of the language (or why the hell FSU signed the extension in 2016, but that's another story)

8/15/23 is the date to leave by 2024
8/15/24 is the date to leave by 2025

Isn’t a university supposed to be “academically oriented”?
That’s supposed to be the point of the whole thing

I always thought University of Florida is a better fit for the B1G. It is an AAU school, and it has the best academic profile in the state. No GOR issue either. If we’re going to go head to head with the SEC, might as well go big.

Miami doesn’t fit in with the other SEC schools sans vanderbilt
Agreed. Most of Miami's student body and alums are from the Northeast states (NJ, NY, PA, New England, etc). They fit the B1G more along with UVA and UNC.

Here's a news flash - the B1G will not pursue Miami who has very little fan support. For that matter, FSU won't be coming either as they would be the only Southeast team which just doesn't make sense.

The B1G will pursue SW and West coast teams as the geographic rivalries and travel distances between them make a lot of sense. Washington, Oregon, and ASU would bring in the Seattle, Portland and Phoenix markets which equates to MONEY

I liked the one lawyer when he talked about suing to get out of a GOR he said something to the effect of, "don't, you're going to lose. They're all written in the same language and they're airtight". FSU doesn't have better lawyers than the other guys, they want out, they're going to pay a massive buyout.

Hell, the exit fee alone costs over $120 mil. before you get into the GOR stuff of media rights. You would forfeit all media rights money from the ACC and then have to pay the ACC any media rights money you make from your new conference. Good Luck with that.

But, if the majority of the ACC schools leave...there is no ACC. I thought that was a huge point that could be attacked. Any attorneys here that can speak on this topic?

And where are the majority of these ACC schools going to get more? There's 14 full time members only about 3 maybe 4 are truly coveted. Those spouting that nonsense (FSU, Clemson, UNC fans) are in the minority of schools.

As for the B1G they value money over competitiveness which has proven to be the big winner in the realignment sweepstakes. Which is why the ACC is amongst the biggest losers they chose the opposite. Those which would draw the most money UNC and Virginia (your 4th).

Btw I posted this in the Colorado thread but don't know if anyone bothered to read it.

From the article:

Since the first major realignment dominoes fell with Texas and Oklahoma's decision to leave the Big 12 for the SEC happened in summer 2021, the ACC has explored possible expansion options, according to multiple league administrators, running models on adding a number of potential targets, including West Virginia, SMU, Oregon and Washington. However, league officials haven't determined if any additional schools would help bridge the ACC's financial gap with the SEC and Big Ten.

Several ACC athletics directors expressed concerns to ESPN, however, that the Big 12's push for continued growth could threaten the ACC's third-place status, particularly given that league will have an opportunity to negotiate another new TV deal four years before the ACC does. As one AD suggested, expansion could be valuable to the league simply as a means of preventing the Big 12 from growing further.

Phillips acknowledged that reality at the league's kickoff event this week.

"You have to understand what's going on across the country," Phillips told ESPN. "Maybe you preempt [another league's expansion], maybe you don't, maybe there's a first thing that has to happen before you make a move. There's a variety of ways you attack this."

Meanwhile, Florida State's 247 site reported Thursday that the Seminoles were actively working to depart the ACC in search of a better financial picture. Although Florida State has worked with several legal teams over the past two years to examine the school's options -- something several other ACC schools have also done -- AD Michael Alford told ESPN on Thursday that there was no change in FSU's status as an ACC member.

FSU and Miami to the SEC and the ACC turns into a lacrosse conference.
Agree. The SEC should solidify FL by adding those 2 as opposed to “expanding their footprint” into NC and VA. The rivalries alone make it a no brainer. That’s what it’s about - creating rivalries that everyone wants to watch regardless of what market they’re in. I suspect more ppl in Charlottesville, VA would watch FSU vs GA than their local team taking on Vanderbilt.

Only one little issue, last time UF played a football game north of South Carolina people were wearing bell bottoms and dancing disco.
