I wish I could get counseling every month for 35 years of mental illness. That would be just swell. Unfortunately, society talks a big game but is generally full of ****. Glad you have people to help you. Take care.

Don't take those "fix yourself" comments in the wrong context, but they are absolutely right. You may have one ****** up history to deal with or overcome but remind yourself that there's thousands of other people that have an equally or even worse past. I'm not in any way shape or form down playing your situation, I wouldn't wish anything worse than my own history on others and yours sounds exceptionally worse! But with that being said, other people have overcome even greater issues and have healed their minds for a more peaceful existence. Some of your verbage indicates that you are disconnected from the fight or that you hold onto the past as a means of identity: "dysfunctional vet" is a prime example. To me it sounds likes you have ultimate support from not only the VA but even complete strangers on a message board, we need you in this 100% and to me, just an opinion, but you don't portray yourself as committed to the fight. It's easier to live in your current identity than to make the change and create a whole new one. I wish you nothing but the best, I really do.
