Trump has opened up a Pandora's box. The media, on occasions, have ombudsmen that are supposed to critique the outlet and keep them on the straight and narrow. They are generally well paid sycophants that rarely speak a harsh word. Now, Trump comes along and calls out the media.
The media has enormous power. They decide WHAT stories to cover. HOW to cover those stories. What SLANT to provide to that story. Whether to make a politician look GOOD or BAD. In other words, they have complete control of the message.
Trump threatens that power. Trust in the media is way down. People are now actively looking for lies, distortions, slanted news coverage, false stories, exaggerations, etc. The people are now acting as ombudsmen.
So the media is scared to death they will have to start to play it straight with the American people. They hate it. They want their opinions to dominate the news and "guide" the hapless, ill-informed people to "the reporter's truth." After all, they are the elite living in NYC and DC. They know what is best for us.
Trump will call them out and with a vengeance. Public trust will continue to erode. But it may be the best thing to happen to the media. Play it honest. Play it truthfully. Play it factually. Then, regain the people's confidence. If Trump does something wrong, report it. If he does something good, report it. But play it STRAIGHT.
