I LOVE the Air Raid Offense.....especially when they sound off the big Siren when we score a TD. And when we pass up and down the field for HUGE yardage and that PA guy yells, "first doooownnn Kentucky!!!" and the crowd goes absolutely INSANE!!!

I was at that game and it was I believe about 105 degrees. Didnt matter, we kept throwing. Maybe someone should hand Stoops that game tape.

I was at that game and had season tickets for years during that time. It was fun and original to watch.

People have to understand this though. That offense had never been seen in D1 before, teams had no idea how to defend it. The air raid coaches have had to adapt to the changing of college defenses over the years so it doesn't look as good now nor is it as easy as it was back then. Those plays with players of the same caliber running them wouldn't be nearly as successful in today's college football.

With that said Dawson's offense doesn't resemble Hal's air raid of old what so ever.

Here's the thing, Mumme's offense went through three QB's. One was the #1 overall pick. One was a walk on and the 3rd was not as highly recruited as what we have now. His offense could move the chains. It didn't matter which QB was back there.

But that era of football has moved on.

Are they going to hand him Tim Couch as well?

Matt Mumme moved the ball in that offense. It didn't matter who the snapped the ball to when you are taught to be good at what you do. No way would Stoops let them throw the ball like they did then. Leach still does pretty good in the air raid. That was a fun time here. Mumme took over a horrible Curry team that couldn't move the ball at all.

How has "Matt" done since leaving UK?
Put me in the camp that says a W is a W and a L is a L regardless how many points you score. The Air Raid became less effective over time because defenses learned how to stop it. Besides finding an accurate QB, it is also difficult to find enough good receivers to make it effective so teams must over-recruit receivers which leaves them short in other areas. The reason that Mumme's UK teams were so horrible on defense is that 70% of recruits were brought in for the offensive side of the ball. Yes, some of those end up going to defense but the bottom line is the defense was always playing with left over talent.

Most of the players in that offense came from horrible Bill Curry teams. The offensive line was probably 2 and 3 star quality players. Yet even with those things working against us, we improved from the very first game. Couch got rid of the ball in like 2 seconds or less and rarely got pressured because of it. We need an innovative offense with great teachers to be successful. Go out and find some people who can do that. Look at Baylor, TCU, or maybe hit up the FCS schools for a great offensive coordinator. We have pretty good recruiters to get us the players we need already. We just don't have a guy to run it and teach it.
