UK is going to a New Years' eve bowl....... and Notre Dame, Texas, and Ole Miss are going, er, well Nowhere !
Not piling on the Irish, Horns, and Rebs, but they were all highly regarded in the pre-season ratings.

Plus Michigan State.

I always look at the preseason mags after the year is over and see who was way overanked. There are always two or three highly rated teams in the top 20, sometimes even in the top 10, that just stink it up for no apparent reason. Happens every year.

OTOH, I remember Phil Steele and several others (maybe SI, I think) picking Washington to have a terrific season. I saw where they were 7-6 or so for the past several years, and thinking, "wow, that is coming out of left field." I guess that is why they make tons of money selling magazines while I post on CatsPause in my spare time.

Yeah, I forgot about Michigan State. They had a very bad season after making the playoff last year.

What a turnaround from say...the first quarter of the APSU game, where many of us had visions of a nightmare in the making...to the thrill of knocking off a 27 point favorite rival on their home field?

Ole Miss was a joke from the beginning, still not sure where the hype came from. Texas never won the previous year and only got recognized by beating .... Notre Dame.
The real joke is on the media that voted for Texas and Notre Dame.

Ole Miss started out pretty well, beat UGA something like 45-14, played FSU pretty tough in the opener, even beat A&M on the road. Somewhere the last 1/3 of the season Kelly got hurt, and the wheels came off. Texas was a colossal puzzle the last 2 seasons, and Notre Dame played the Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl last season.
