As DJ said, maybe, but that's only conjecture, not a fact . But here are a couple of facts, Duke won that game, and Duke has won 12 of the last 15. And for every single bitter loss, Carolina nation spews a string of excuses. There is a pattern here, and the pattern is that Duke figures out a way to win, or UNC figures out a way to lose...if that makes you feel better. Either way it's the same result.
Now UNC may well beat the living hell out of us in Chapel Hill (hope not), and go on a winning streak of their own against Duke...but that is not the here and now.

Maybe that qualifies for what is it Sky calls it, a "blown assist," or half a banner, or instead of a Helms Trophy a "Hicks Trophy."
Funny, Hicks was laughing and carrying on early in game when they were winning, but at game's end, he looked pretty sad....

Yes, the Helms. They would have won a title if it had actually been played for that year *(so long as it was only played in the SE and so long as you don't count the actual end of season tournament that was won by a team not named UNC).

If you wanna go on "ifs". If Fred brown of Georgetown hadn't thrown the ball to james worthy, they wouldn't have won the title in 82. If chris Webber hadn't called a timeout that Michigan didn't have, then unx wouldn't have won the title in 93. So all their titles except 57 should have an asterisk beside them.

If at-large teams were permitted in the 1957 NCAA Tournament, if freshman were allowed to play, if a shot clock had been implemented, if you had to win more than 4 games, UNC wouldn't have won the title in 57.
