Interesting! More than half of those teams lost in the National Championship Game, including Gonzaga this year. Perhaps a bit quick with my calculation. UNC 1998 lost in the semifinals
Of the 10, only 3 won titles. So, being dominant (per KenPom) isn’t a guarantee for winning it all. Not sure where our ‘91 or ‘92 team would rank, tho I think ‘92 would be up there with the best.
The dominant teams we think of (‘18 Nova, ‘15 Wisky, ‘12 UK, ‘09 UNC, ‘07 UF, ‘05 UNC) aren’t even listed.
That does really go to show how difficult it is to win a championship in a single elimination format.
That's too logical. The arm chair coaches will disagree man. Remember Duke has to win every year or K is washed up.
That 99 team would probably be number one if you took away the last game. Oh man they already are number one.
UCONN was preseason #2 that season (Duke was 1). Just like this season, Gonzaga was preseason 1 and Baylor was preseason #2 but Baylor won it all. I think the last preseason #1 to win it all was ‘09 UNC (although if Michigan State hadn’t beaten UCONN in the FF, I think UCONN wins it all in ‘09).
Too bad we didn't constantly feed Elton Brand the ball in that championship game and figure out more ways to get him the basketball. And Avery should have taken half the shots he did. Brand was our best player and he took 8 shots. Avery 12. Langdon 15 (more understandable but still too many relative to Brand). SMH. I really think we'd have won that if we fed Brand more and gave him 15 shots or so.
UConn's defense had a little bit to do with that. At times they were able to get just what the defense was giving them. Avery definitely took a few too many jump shots though. That said, I do agree. Hindsight is 20/20.

While watching the Florida game Brand seemed to struggle against guys bigger than him. Haslem was their center. To be fair he was a power forward who was asked to play center.
