Have to think Highland is favored here. At best a push. Any Hilltopper expecting a blowout win is in the clear minority.
Respectfully disagree, I’m neither a highland fan or a JCA fan, I would like to see Highland beat JCA, that said I favor JCA by 3 scores

Just trying to understand what “JCA big” is for you. I guess you can only handle the one bad beat on Saturday.
Oh believe me the last thing I want is a JCA win. I’m not a degenerate, therefore I’m not gonna bet on high school football with a stranger on a message board. If I was tho I would have no problem laying 18.

It would of course only be a friendly wager with bragging rights on the line, but I think you might be in for a pleasant surprise on Saturday.

I spoke with my cousin in Highland. The sentiment in Highland is that they know they will score against JCA. They are concerned about JCAs offense especially their speed on turf. Highland plays on grass which can slow up even some of the quickest players. Highland does not want to get into a shootout. Bottom line is which defense stands tall will win this game.

I’m rooting for JCA and every other ESCC and CCL team like I said at the start of the playoffs. It’s what we do, it’s called brotherhood of privates. Too much time spent on this board criticizing each other - private to private.

Deep down I really don’t want JCA to go further because every win they get only hurts Provi’s recruiting chances. Its already tough enough to get quality players in the LW school districts then add in competing with JCA makes it even tougher.

Despite Highland having "playoff experience"from last year I'm going to give the nod to JCA for the basic fact that their regular season has them more than ready for what they will see.Week in and week out JCA has had the tougher schedule. That along with the fact that its in Joliet have me going with JCA in a good game.I'm thinking it will be 3 and 1/2 yards and a cloud of dust for JCA ball control game.

For what it is worth, those participating in the King's Challenge have picked Joliet Catholic by about a 2:1 ratio over Highland; which would translate to Joliet Catholic being about a 7-point favorite.

I would go over. Unless JCA completely controls the ball and time of possession to slow the game down. Then I like highland to score at least 40. I think it’s a toss up and agree that whoever can get more stops will win the game.

Yes, spot on. JC played a real good SHG team in a 2011 semifinal at home. Wind was gusting that day and JC deferred on the toss to get the wind in the first quarter. A good SHG offense that depended on the pass was unable to get anything going in the first quarter and JC was up 28 to 0 before you could blink.

I don't anticipate that same perfect scenario to to play out Saturday for JC. But any cold and especially wind is definitely a good thing for them.

JC secondary is probably the most talented part of their defense this year. One of their better players was out last week though. Could be tough if he's still out.

This wind tunnel can be very real.

As mentioned, it is wide open on the South (left) and North (right) end-zones and the wind tunnel referenced can be a very real factor in November.

That said, it appears that Highland has the edge in playoff experience. It should be a good battle. We might see OT.

If you’re saying that Highland will score 40 on JCA in any conditions I’ll take that money all day for my favorite charity. What do you say too $100 paid to the certified charity of the winners choice...loser MUST PROVE he paid the $100 to the charity of winner’s choice.

As mentioned it will be based on the number of possessions Highland gets. I believe Highland can convert touchdowns against JCA at a rate of 3/5 If Highland can get 10 possessions I think they score 40 points. The question is though, how will the game flow go. Will JCA have long methodical possessions that eat up the clock?? I don’t know.

If you are willing to put a contingency in there on Highland getting 10 possessions where they are trying to score (no end of the first half running the clock out or victory formation at the end of the game would count). I would accept your offer.

I think there is a much greater likelihood that the JCA defense is able to stop Highland vs them being able to stop JCA. With so many players going both ways for Highland, having to deal with a big offensive line and the tandem of Hailey and Iannantone may be a bit much to overcome. If Highland is unable to throw, this one could get out of hand. Just my opinion.

How big does JCA go up front? Do they have any two way players as well?

I think unless we are looking at 20-30mph highland should be able to throw.

Pretty big upfront. Everyone between 260 and 300 I believe. No full time two way players. I believe a few o linemen rotate at one d tackle spot. A linebacker comes in to play TE and some db's come in to play WR on some third down situations. So essentially two platoon football and, when needed, get the best athletes on the field for a play or 2.

Let the backpedaling begin! 10 possessions in any high school football game is significant. Additionally, you essentially want it to really be 12 because of your end of half end of game(really not expecting Highland to be kneeling in V- Formation) requirement, and believe that Highland will score at a rate of 60%! Perhaps we should bet on Highland scoring on 60% of their possessions too. This is sooooo precious.

Not back pedaling if you just would have read the original post. I said it was dependent on JCA going on long drives. Which is the only way they beat Highland. Which can be done.

I’d rather take the points it sounds like you will give me.

You’ll give me 18.5 points?

I’m not a gambler and have never wagered $100 on anything.

But I hate seeing someone bullied over money. So I’ll take the action, it won’t hurt me.

Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation is my charity.

What’s yours?

His bet was on Highland not scoring 40 points. Which I said I think will do as long as JCA doesn’t go on long clock eating drives. I asked him if he wanted to give me points instead and he reverted to other antics.

Crusader,

I wasn’t bullying anyone. The guy was running his mouth about scoring 40 on JCA. I’m no fan of JCA but I respect the program enough to speak up and call him out. Then he shifts his arguement to if they have 10 or more meaningful drives blah blah blah...

I never offered a point spread etc....to say any team will score 40 and on 60% of their possessions is just completely disrespectful. He called for a bet first, I offered the terms when he pushed this crap. Again all mouth, no teeth. To HHSbulldogs congrats on your first anniversary and good luck on Saturday you’ll need it.

As far as charitable contribution I’d split 50/50 to the following.

I never called for a bet on 40 points, but once again you would have to able to read and comprehend to understand that. Let me put it out there what I said:

“I would go over. Unless JCA completely controls the ball and time of possession to slow the game down. Then I like highland to score at least 40. I think it’s a toss up and agree that whoever can get more stops will win the game.”

Let’s break it down.

The first sentence. Someone asked if the over under could be set at 77. I said I would take the over.

I then go on to say I think Highland can score at least 40 points barring JCA does not go on long possessions and slow the game down.

The last part is showing respect to JCA. I think the game is toss up which means to me I think JCA is a good team. Because I believe Highland is a good team.

Which closes back to my response of why I would take he over. With it being a toss up and me thinking Highland will score at least 40, then over 77 would be my pick.

The way I look at it is just another northern Illinois guy giving disrespect to teams coming from the 618. Talking about how Highland needs so much luck. Let me ask you this, what do you know about Highland? Anything? Or that they are just another team south of I-80 that doesn’t play anybody?

I think JCA is a favorite in this game, but certainly not by 18.5, that’s a ton of lumber to lay. I think a more realistic line would be Hill -6.5... o/u 77. Highland has a long road trip with weather conditions that initially, seem to favor JCA. But not to the tune of 18.5

HHS,

Let’s start out that I now live in PA. That said I’ve watch your games live every week since week 4 and/or have taken in most of your game tape that I haven’t watched live because I was intrigued about what everyone “down south” was enchanted by in the program. I simply couldn’t find it in watching what I would call a slightly above average team. I don’t look at the scores, I look at the play and didn’t see anything special. Again good luck.

I appreciate the wish of good luck, I do. Just feel saying it will be needed is a slight. What about the play makes you feel that way?

I have watched most games on NFHS because of travel for work and the camera work kills me. The quality is good by why do they have to do the tight zoom during the play and then try to cut to the wider view. I miss so much, both on the line and skill positions watching.

If you're playing a traditional Illinois powerhouse from up north you're not supposed to have confidence in your team. It's a sign of disrespect. ESL excluded. lol
