Bill's hilarious.

Heard on his podcast when he runs down his upcoming shows that he's going to be in Texas quite a bit in September. Said he and some of his stand-up buddies are going to the Texas/OSU game and will be rooting for the shorthorns (he usually roots for the home team). We need to get him to come up for homecoming. Too bad Orange Peel doesn't exist anymore--he'd be fantastic.

People flipped out over Damon Wayans and protested Incubus. Bill Burr would cause mass rioting.

This is so true. We were in school during the Incubus thing. That may have been the stupidest thing that happened while I was in Stillwater.

Yeah, forgot about that. I suppose when I mean he'd be great, I guess I mean I'd love for him to be the headliner. Oh well...it's not happening regardless! Was the Damon & Incubus thing the reason OP was ultimately cancelled as a program?

I agree with you Burr is great.

I don't think that was the reason. I think the event was teetering and the one year they said they had booked Foo Fighters when they really hadn't and I'm not sure it ever came back (I could be completely wrong on all that by the way).

Yeah that's how I remember it. They talked like they had the Foo Fighters and got Jason Mraz instead. It died after that.

BTW pay your fantasy dues.

You clearly weren't in Stillwater when that ****** movie The Last Temptation of Christ was screened on campus.

Something about incubus being an imp and being evil, satanic etc. Something totally ridiculous. No one actually listened to their music.

Mega,

You should have been on campus when some ultra fundy girl went on a jag about the cartoon strip Academia Waltz which was appearing in the O'Colly. It was penned by Berke Breathed who went on to take many of the same characters and create Bloom County just a year or two later and Pulitzer prize to to go with it in 1987.

Sure enough, because of about a dozen or two students getting upset about it, they stopped publishing it altogether, while significantly more students were upset about it being pulled. The gist of the girl's position and rationale for wanting it removed was because she thought it the work of Satan, designed to destroy Christianity. I can only imagine what she thought of Kiss.

What was the deal with Incubus?

I could be wrong but I think it was strictly because of their name. I'm not the world's biggest Incubus scholar but the 2 or 3 songs I've heard of Incubus are not even remotely controversial.

Saw some headlines stating he was receiving some blow back from offended parties....which obviously plays into his humor that people take themselves far too seriously and end up looking like idiots.

Orange Peel was doomed the moment it became about the ultra-conservative families in the region instead of the edgy, student-driven agenda it should always have been.

This is why Gator Growl is still great, and why Orange Peel is extinct.
