He is the most unconventional candidate of any party. He owes no allegiance to special interest donors, doesn't require "handlers" doesn't speak with a forked tongue, and doesn't care if anyone doesn't like what he has to say.
He is blunt, but direct. He is on point. He connects with his voters and nothing anyone says can break that bond he shares with us because he is one of us....not part of the "ruling class". He understands our frustrations, he realizes how impotent we often feel against Leviathan, and he is determined to overturn and drain the swamp so that it starts working for us instead of the other way around.
Swamp dwellers hate him for it, and are determined to stop him or destroy him at any cost. They will fail. We have his back, just as he has ours.

I think he's relatively moderate, similar healthcare ideas to Biden. I question his level of experience. Mayor of a mid-sized city isn't exactly prep for top exec on the world stage. Then again, what exactly is good experience for that job? It's pretty unique. I still think I lean toward Klobuchar out of the current pack of folks on that side. I really haven't given the whole field a hard look.

I posted a while back that the Democrat party had been seized by the radical Left. I haven't seen anything to dismiss that theory.

The Democrat agenda is nothing near moderate, and any candidate pretending to run anywhere close to the center will not get that party's nomination.
I thought your best candidate just in terms of being "moderate" was Tulsi Gabbard, but she was railroaded out of consideration the minute she attacked Socialized medicine. The Democrats have a huge problem keeping their kook fringe Left happy, while searching for a moderate who can appeal to a center right nation. I think you've lost independents, especially with this impeachment fiasco.

I've heard a study reported that says 14% dictate the platforms of the 2 parties. I don't recall which side had 6% and which had 8%, but that the 14% pushed both parties to the extremes.
Well in the primaries you're always going to have to placate the hard core activists. They're the backbone of any party. However to win broad based races, you have to present candidates that appeal to the widest swath on both sides. Those are the swing voters.
What's remarkable about Trump is he has done that, while solidifying his Conservative base! That's not easy to do, as the "true believers" are more reluctant to back someone not all in with their causes. However Trump's managed to shore up his Republican base, and he's now reaching out for non traditional Republican voters (Blacks, Hispanics and other minorities)
Democrats meantime can't decide on Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden or Pete Buttigieg. Each candidate making concessions to the far Left to get nominated, but ticking off moderates and independents Trump is winning.
Democrats are in huge trouble Mule...especially with middle class Blacks who are also Christian.
