I've made Christian overtures in various ways to people over the years, but when they rebuff your appeal, there's no use in persisting. And yes, people have a right to ask a person to desist and to have that request respected.
When rebuffed do not persist. Instead, pray for that person. Let God soften their hearts. Let the Spirit do his thing. Watch them ask you to tell them more about this Jesus.

Yes, and please tell them about Jesus from 1 year of age to 18 years of age. What was he doing during that time? I want to know the history of Jesus as a young boy thru his youth to becoming a man.

And you and they have the right to be turned off. I get turned off when folks talk about soccer, but I'm not going to suggest they shouldn't talk about it.
How many people have been killed over soccer vs religion?

The gospel is more than examples of what right and wrong are. It's not something we can "show" others because the gospel is the message that actions can never and will never be enough because we are imperfect beings born with a sinful nature. An individual has to recognize that they're in need of a savior to begin with. That's not something you can show, but something that has to be shared through testimony and scripture.
How about simply, live and let live. It's easy without all the dogma.

Not testifying in some form or fashion wouldn't be Scriptural, but there are respectful methods and sensible limitations. Indeed, failure to recognize those guarantees futility.

"But there was something about her statements this time that seemed to hit a different chord, particularly Staley’s phrasing that there was “something wrong” with people who don’t believe in a higher power of some kind, though in Black American vernacular that phrase is often not used literally."

********************************************

Did anyone else notice the condescending nature of the above paragraph in the hit piece?

Maybe even semi racialist, would be an accurate description of the way the author accuses Dawn of speaking Black American vernacular? While in a way he softens the blow of what she said by excusing her for not really meaning what she said. He is, on the other hand mercifully giving her and out by backhandedly accusing her of speaking Ebonics. Maybe a little bit of racial superiority at play here? He is talking down to Dawn like she is incapable of speaking American English, only capable of handling the Black American dialect. I have listened to Dawn many times and she is quite able to find words she needs to convey her thoughts in American English.

I don't think Dawn needs help understanding what she said, from this under employed constitutional scholar. This writer's most recent claim to fame is writing a hit piece on one of the most successful coaches alive, and having it published in an American tabloid.

I find the live and let live people having a problem with what she said comical. The writer of the piece is a person with no life.

And for those wondering what Jesus did age 1-18…..He knows what you did.

Because if the gospel is true, and there certainly is no evidence that it’s not, it’s more than just motivational quotes or sayings to help you get through the day. If the gospel is true it’s the difference between an eternity in a place more amazing than anything we could imagine or an eternity in a place more awful than we could ever imagine. If we truly love others that’s not something we can be “ho-hum” about.

Humor me for a minute and pretend the Bible is 100% true. If we simply “live and let live” how are others ever going to be exposed to the gospel?

There's plenty of evidence that it's not. There's plenty of evidence that many scriptures from many other faiths is not true as well.

Because there's no way any of us can objectively prove without a shadow of a doubt that our particular faith system is true, we call it faith. That's the very essence of faith.

I am not trying to discount or disparage anybody's faith; I'm just trying to put it in a broader perspective.

You set up booths at county fairs, and those who are interested can patronize your booth.

What is the evidence?

Why not ages 19 -29? He really ramped up at the age of 30.

No just simply from ages 1-18. No one has bothered to answer yet. And I can tell you why, NOBODY knows!!!! Just like nobody knows whether it's Christianity, Catholicism, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and on and on and on and on that is right or wrong.

To let everyone in on a little secret: THEY ARE ALL RIGHT!!! It gives the people something to follow and feel a part of something!!!

Even atheists believe in the Human Spirit.

To one person's view point: eternal life is something that is promised in Christianity.
I am one who hopes there is an end. I don't want to go on forever.

Can you imagine not being able to have an end? I understand when people who have terminal cancer wanting it all to end. I personally don't want to live to be past 85 and be a burden on someone. I like the fact that there is endings EVEN if there is this so called Eternal Life. UGH...

It doesn't matter what you want. And you don't like that. Tough. Your choice is eternity in paradise or eternity in torment. We don't get to set the rules. Choose wisely. I pray for God to open your eyes and your heart.

That writer is cutting edge🤪

He/she may want to do some research. Supreme Court has been pretty clear on this. She can talk about Jesus all she wants.

I think they are alleging her team devotionals basically constitute a Bible study and that players would feel compelled to participate
Denying them the right to participate is illegal so why not that angle? Requiring them to would not fly either. But me, or any other coach can have a prayer or devotional group and invite you or anyone else to come…. as long as it’s not mandatory or no retribution involved. You people act like this is brain surgery.

So Dawn has the power of the mic, and she praises Jesus. Good for her. My head scratcher comes more from her saying trans men should be able to play women’s sports.

Bottom line people, you’re not going to convince or not convince someone about faith on a sports message board. So let’s enjoy our title.

True…..our world of wussies worried about being offended or turned off. My uncle that fought with Patton at The Battle of the Bulge, (earned the Bronze Star), is rolling over in his grave laughing. My dad who spent a year in a Korean fox hole is too.

The people so worried about her having faith in Jesus are the same ones that think it’s okay for a dude dressed like a woman is a$$less chaps dancing and reading to a 5 year old.

The same way people in American have not been exposed to the Nikāyas unless you are exposed to someone who practices Buddhism...or around Judaism when they speak of the Torah and it's teachings.

There are many Americans who don't want to be exposed to the Gospel as they believe in different teachings. It's not complicated. There is room for all religions in America.

Simply let people live in peace, free to choose which teachings fit them best. So many people are in recovery from Christianity.

Not gonna lie, having two Tennessee Gamecocks on this forum confuses me sometimes. 🤣

We debated who was the original 😀.
Appears it will go down in history like the chicken and the egg debate. Thank goodness he uses a hyphen or I would be confused.

The other one seems to be a true Gamecock fan and is cool with me. We both have a connection to east TN, and ironically to the Spartanburg area. I am sure we disagree on some topics, but I worry more when people always agree on topics.

You're generally not going to convince someone about a faith system period.

I think more people might be interested in learning about other religions from an educational/information standpoint. It's the proselytizing which turns them off. Regardless of the faith system.

And learning about other faiths is, IMO, a good idea. The better we understand each other, the better we should be able to get along with each other.

Not necessarily. There are other faith systems besides Christianity that think it's not okay "for a dude dressed like a woman is a$$less chaps dancing and reading to a 5 year old."

A perfect example of why learning about (non-)faith systems other than your own is useful.
