They did already. That was one of the first things they did. They verified the signatures on the envelope matched the signature on the ballot. That was explained to Senator Lindsay Graham (from South Carolina, calling Georgia, I know, right) when he called the Georgia SOS.
It's not supposed to match the signature on the envelope, according to state law. Marc Elias filed suit and judicial changed procedures to not match state law.

In GA, you must request a mail in ballot via application, when you make that application, that application signature is checked against the voters registered signature on file with their voter registration file. Once confirmed, they send the ballot.
When the ballot is received, the signature on the ballot is checked against both the signature on the coinciding application AND the voter registration file.
It is one of the most secure processes in the country and GA is also a ID required state. The reason the Governor is on TV saying this is because he knows it cannot be done.....once the ballots are received and gone through the stringent process, the ballot are separated from the envelopes for privacy reasons.....
Again, this is all hyperbole and PR stunts......if they want to change the process, fine, change the laws for the next election...

Should be signature on record signed in front of a witness & voter ID......a novel idea to protect our most sacred right as documented U.S citizens the signature should match the one on our valid picture id.....

Yea man, wearing a mask for something I have a 99.99% chance of surviving. It just wasn’t a concern once we learned more about it. Certainly not enough to care about losing a year of my life over it like some of you all did. I have enjoyed 2020 as much as I did the previous 20 years of this millennium. Fished, travelled, partied, etc. Nothing really changed for me.
So subverting the votes and playing party politics in state legislatures as a fix? That's a dangerous path. You have to have hard evidence to do that, and we haven't seen that yet. The GA video raises questions, but what has not been answered is if this counting issue was resolved by the audit that recounted every vote or the recount. I want all of the story before I throw out all of the votes.
