Wyatt leads so far

Well, Wyatt won the fan vote. Even if you couple Cstar and MMs numbers together. So, Starocci has never won a Hodge? First 5x champ and no Hodge🤦🏼‍♂️. He probably won’t win this year. Bad timing

Has there ever been a coordinated way the media is trying to sway Hodge voting? Every Tom dick and harry is making it public this year trying so hard for Carter. PSU mafia out on full force.

Can I just say that I am so tired of hearing about the historic 5th NCAA championship. Does anyone think any of the other 4 time winners would not have won another championship if they had gotten a 5th chance at it?

The fan vote is super close. Everyone go vote! Redouble your efforts!
It's 48% to 40%.

I get that a couple years ago, they took career achievements into account, but the fifth championship is overblown and not relevant.

Pat, Cael, Steiber and Dake would've been 7 or more time champs if they were given the opportunity.

It should be Wyatt by a decent margin. It won't be. But it should be.

Correct. I love how the Flo guys keep trying to make this more complicated than it is. They were asking questions like, "What does dominance mean?" Well, do you speak English? It turns out there is a really easy way to calculate who the most dominant wrestler was. It is called a dominance score. And it isn't even close.

Willie ripping Pyles on X over his vote for CStar and “eye test” reasoning behind it.
He is right to. I understand why people want to give it to CStar, but there is no fair reading of the Hodge criteria that justifies giving it to him. CStar has a better argument as the greatest college wrestler of all time (which he is not) than he does the 2025 Hodge trophy.

Yup!

Not a fan of Pyles any longer. Cael calls his shots and Flo is officially the CNN of NCAA Wrestling.

Why MD someone when you can pin him. Look at that PIN numbers, it should be Wyatt. Pinning his way to beat two former NCAA champions, one of them with Olympic Gold, is no small feat.
How many hwts do you see fight off their back? Not very many. Wyatt,Gable, injured Kerk were the only athletic true heavyweights and Kerk was small compared to Wyatt and Gable. 125 and hwt are 2 weights that usually have most wrestlers with parity. You all say messinbrink had 1 or non at his weight but hwt was close to same type weight.

Where do you get that Kerk was small compared to Wyatt? Wyatt weighed in at 250-something. What does Kerk weigh in at?

As for comparing weight classes, it's widely agreed that 165 was weak. From last year, it lost the best two guys in Carr and O'Toole. Heavyweight lost the 2nd place guy and gained a 2x Hodge winner.

So maybe one of the guys don't win a fifth title. We will never know, but my point stands. If you can win 4, you can probably win 5.
This is the main point of the "Greatness of the Five time Champ" argument. The accomplishment, while great, is as much about opportunity as it is about ability. I've forgotten how many 4x All-Americans there were during the post war 4X NCAA Tournament possibilities time but Dick Hutton was our only 4x NCAA participant until Jay Arneson (69-72). We had 10 wrestlers who where 3 for 3 as National Champions and many would have been 4x's if given a chance (do you think Uetake would have lost). So, how many of the 4x's would have won five if given a chance. What about the 3x's for that matter (Uetake again).

Of course you could argue that Wyatt's win was about opportunity but every point about Wyatt in that direction can be applied to MM except The Air Force allowing him to transfer.

Maybe DT would've found the magic and beaten Dake in 2014. DT was an absolute beast his senior year. I agree that all the other 4 timers would've been heavy favorites.

Following year champs after the 4 timers:
1995 158-Ernest Benion (Ill) - Pat Smith
2003 197-Damion Hahn (MN) - Cael
2014 165-DT - Dake
2016 141-Dean Heil - Stieber
2024 149-Caleb Henson - Yianni
2025 197-Buchanan - Brooks

Gotta imagine Dake goes up to 174 against Chris Perry!

It might get lost to history because people are going to only think of his finals win, but Wyatt was masterful all year long. He had everyone in Gallagher holding their breath every time he wrestled. I can't remember watching a guy who made watching duals so fun. In my mind, this will forever be the Wyatt Year, kinda like what Barry did in 88.

+1

You knew the pinning attempts were coming. Which meant the pins were coming. And the guy's athleticism, oh man. His takedowns were crazy, scrambles were epic, I swear some of his escapes were so powerful that I felt punched through the TV, lol

And the backflips?? Come on. It was like Steve Mocco all over again but with the fun amped up. Thank you Wyatt!

Is Bo intentionally leaving out that the Hodge takes sportsmanship into consideration? And that perhaps Carter’s “pissing on grave” tweets might have dinged him in that category? If the dude is into golden showers more power to him, but tweeting that out might hurt you in the sportsmanship category.
