- For him, spring will be evaluating what the players do well and the approach he takes will gel in fall camp.
- He thinks the OL is more athletic this year, but perhaps a tick down on the strength side.
- I knew he was high on Bonner and his versatility. He came back to Bonner in his comments. Said when he went down, that changed how the offense could play.
- He likes Nelson a lot, but says Rule may run better than all of them.

Did he say if Bonner is recovered from the injury, or trending that way? It looked pretty ugly when it happened.

interpretation “we think Nelson is OK, and we will use him if wr have to but we hope Rule is good because we need him to be badly”

Thank you for a actual football post. Refreshing. I think the running back room will be good. We'll see. I do like the pessimism; it shows me that people (still) care.
And that we're tired of becoming a ****** program with all these "facilities" and nothing to show for it. Its less that we care, and more of we're sick of the same dumpster fire every year.

Dana is horrible. That press conference didn't install any confidence for me. Dana still pissed off about being asked about the running back room.. what a clown.. we couldn't punch it in last year because we didn't have the personnel, and this year, will be the same story. Dana is the biggest hack on the staff imo.

Rhule seemed genuinely sad that his defense will be replaced entirely by a new scheme from the new DC. The defense could go backwards. Not sure that will happen, but it's possible..

Aurich, well that guy seemed more upbeat than Rhule or Dana, but he also seemed a bit scared to talk at his presser. I hope he knows what he is doing.. the other 2 guys don't.

it is, but it doesn't have to be.. Matt could have come in fired up about spring ball and saying all the right things.. (this is actually his job).. I am excited as hell for this team led by Colandrea.. I expected a lot more from Matt. Even if he knows he is cooked, he should still be doing the best job possible because of the privilege of coaching for this University and the obscene amount of money he is being paid. Be professional.. you're being paid like one.

I was really excited about Dana taking the OC job. I still think he would be a better head coach than Rhule. But so far… Dana has not produced. This year is kind of it for him… Put up or shut up time.
Last year was a very bad time to have a throw away year. Dylan plays worse than expected. Then gets hurt. Other key injuries pile up. Try to play a different style of offense but then run into a buzz saw at the end of the year.

I'm hoping that Dana puts in a simple system that plays toward running QBs. For instance, why not run a "heavy" set with six linemen. Then off that play some unbalanced line. Try to open some things up for the running game. In the passing game, you have one less receiver but better pass protection. The result is less likely to have a receiver get open but easier for a QB to scramble.

So you are saying that he lost the press conference?

If they come in pumping sunshine, other people are gonna just ***** at that too. I, for one, am hopeful. Not for a good season in the fall, but at least it seems like everything is more low key so far this off-season. No more hype videos of players walking to a weights workout. No more celebrations after some lineman who wouldn't start at Iowa, Minnesota or Penn State sets a personal record in the squat. No more bragging about players who haven't done **** yet. Just shut up and work.

Iowa and Penn State last year were a buzz saw? Lmfao
Did you watch the games? If that wasn't a buzz saw, what would you call it? Those teams were much tougher than us on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Or are you saying that Iowa and Penn State aren't that good compared to like Nebraska back in 1997? Is that your point?

I'm saying
Oregon/Ohio St/Indiana = buzz saw
Pedo St and Iowa? Not so much

Us never being prepared in November, a buzz saw November schedule does not make

Right? Has iowa ever been "a buzz saw"? Like, ever?
PSU was horrible last year.
Pedo ST was the "buzz saw," not because they were good, but our coach was so blinded by his infatuation with that weird place, he was unable to create a game plan to beat a bad goofer team led by penis-head.

Hat guy created his own disaster, and now seems to realise it just a little, tiny, bit.

The buzz saw is more like teams with tough, physical line play and committed to running right at us over and over again. We played four teams like that last year and all four beat the living piss out of us. The three game skid to end the season shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone paying attention. We need better play on both lines and to be a lot more physical if we ever want to beat those types of teams. That’s 100% on Rhule.

He was extremely limited in the plays he could call by Dylan.

Once again no identity on offense. Smh, So we're going to have to wait 6 games in to see what we do best instead of just coaching to an identity/ philosophy and sticking with it. 🤦🏽‍♂️ People can call it coach speak in Dana's defense as much as they want but Dana he is who he is.

Yeah, it's brutal. The best coaches in the country have a system and find the right players to fit that system (most recent National Champions and Super Bowl Champions).

At Nebraska we take a look at the collection of different styles on the roster and think "Hmmm.... wonder what system will work with these guys?"

It's crazy really. And sad.

O line guys for the most part will have no experience working with each other. We are not sure who our RB1 is although it looks like Nelson will be. Hope he bulks up so he can handle the wear and tear. QB is up in the air. Defense will be an all new system. It might take awhile for things to gel together on both sides of the ball. I would feel a lot better if EK was still here. ST can cover up a lot of warts. Moving from 112th to 12th nationally helped us a lot last year. 2027 class is ranked #7 from what I read today. Better days ahead, I hope.

Indiana over Iowa 20-15, over Penn State 27-24
Oregon over Penn State 30-24(2ot) and Iowa 18-16.
Apparently PSU and Iowa were capable of some decent ball relative to Indiana and Oregon

If you look at the makeup of the QBs that are on campus now, none of them play like Dylan Raiola. All are mobile in the pocket, all can run with confidence to pick up a first down. I believe the system is in place, now they have the type of QB that can execute what they want to run. With the mobile QB defenses will have to account for that player. They didn't have to with Raiola. It is like when Ron Kellogg III was playing QB, he would run the mesh with the RB but everyone knew that the only option was to hand the ball off or throw, no one was worried about Kellogg taking off running. With the defense accounting for the QB, that should open up passing lanes that haven't been there for 2 years.

College Olines rarely have experience working together anymore. As the portal becomes more prevalent, it will become less and less common. A new coach using hand and leverage techniques that most players have been using for years, rather than the antiquated method Raiola learned from Hiestand will also make a difference in how the line gels.

QB1 is not up in the air, unless Colandrea is injured, he will start, that seems pretty clear in all the comments that have been made since he signed on.

The defensive system appears to be player friendly. I expect the defense to be playing well after the 3 non conference games and be up to speed, yes there will be road bumps but it wouldn't surprise me to see a sort of Peliniesque turn from 2002 when Solich brought him on and the defense only allowed 4 teams to score 14 or more points by simplifying the defense. The 2001 team had nine games where the opponent scored more than 14 points.

I think the special teams is going to be as good as it was last year. Humphries came with Ekeler, and has 3-4 years experience playing and coaching many components of ST. Tennessee's ST didn't drop off much, if any, when Ekeler left there because competent people were left with the system.

Will the defense be able to stop or slow down a dedicated power run game?

I got know particular beef with Dana, nor much love for him based on this past season. However, after listening to what he actually said (at least parts I have heard) he was talking about using spring practice to find out what he has. He specifically stated he may not know until fall camp what the offense will look like. He didn't suggest it will be six games into the season before he knows. He also stated that he is not a coach who insists on one type of offense and too bad of it doesn't really fit his players. He wants to run an offense that best fits who he has. I am having a hard time finding fault there. Granted, it would be ideal if he knew what he wanted and recruited to that, ala - T.O. But, reality is he inherited players already in the system this past season. I also believe he was pretty hamstrung by having to play Raiola, and then he had an inexperienced true freshman with some limitations and who didn't grasp the full offense. I am guessing he had a big hand in selecting Colandrea - so no excuses this year.

I think it's safe to say, and really has been for awhile, that Nebraska Football is dead! A has been if there ever was one. Really has been that way for the better part of a decade. NU fans just can't bring themselves to admit it, that is until now.

Oh what we wouldn't give to be a mediocre 9 to 10 win team again.

Loser or realist? Nebraska fans are loyal to a fault. I moved on years ago. I watch with eager hope each week, but know that we will never be what we once were. Ever! What's frustrating is the amount of $ spent to be barely mediocre. I know this hurts you and others to hear...deep down you know it's true. But I get it, it's hard to admit failure and ultimately that most of this has been self inflicted going back 25 years.

You can demand better/more all you want, and we should get more bang for the buck, but that won't change the fact that we are who we are. You and I? We are meaningless in the big scheme of things. Simply pawns in a massive money making endeavor with small hopes of being relevant once again.

NU fans love to tout how we make a difference, then we watch teams with half filled stadiums win their conferences or play in meaningful post season games, all while we barely scrape together a 7 win season and have to watch Iowa fans snearing faces as their team once again finish us off with another victory on our home field. It's no wonder that most fans across the nation view us as a bunch of pathetic wannabees. Sorry but outside of Nebraska very few people think we matter.

You can be mad at me or make comments like you finished with. I don't care. Bottom line I'm right and more and more Husker fans are agreeing with my stance.

I know they should be able to set the edge better with a 4 man front and not relying on someone bouncing from a 3 tech to the outside to get it done. From what I read about Aurich, the assignments are more simple and based. There isn't as much reliance on the guy in front of you making a correct read and getting to his run fit.

Nah you are just weak. This has nothing to do with anything outside of Husker fans. I know you need to feel the need to be influenced and vindicated from others. That is what makes you a cuck. I’m not mad at anyone. If you just will throw your hands up and parade around saying this program is dead. Have at it. But Husker fans won’t go away.
