Looking to place about 3-4 cameras outside for added security. Probably leaning towards wireless.

What do you guys have? Pros/Cons. Battery life? Cost?

TIA

I've got 4 Arlo cameras and love them. 1 inside and 3 outside. I love that I can look at what's going on at my house while I'm away. I can look on my iPhone or Mac Air or iPad. Now the batteries aren't cheap at all and I only use the camera's when I'm gone. If you are gone and use the cameras 3 months total or less a year, you can get by on one set of batteries a year. Each camera takes 4 batteries.

I have a couple of outdoor Ring cameras and they've been a solid investment. Thinking about getting a couple more to see the entire exterior of my house.

I would do a hardwire to DVR/NVR. Wireless cams still aren't solid on communication and cameras aren't any good if they drop out when you need them. Doesn't mean a POE cam won't lose power but it's more reliable for communications.

Most of the newer Arlo systems have rechargeable batteries. I am looking into one of their systems as well.

We use Ring and have had no issues yet, but have only had them 4 months. Also looked into Nest and they seem to be top notch - was just too expensive for us.

I suggest wired. Possibly more expensive in the beginning but they are more reliable and potentially cheaper in the long run. Buy a battery backup also so when the power is out they still run for a while.

I have had Ring for a few years. No complaints. The batteries go for several months before needing a recharge. Great investment for me.

Some African American kids from my neighborhood keep stealing my Amazon packages. I know exactly where they live but snitches get stitches.

The way the new ones work is when the battery gets low you will get a notification. Then you can take the camera down and plug it in to recharge it. A friend of mine has the 1st generation of cameras and he has to change batteries. He recommended to get the rechargeable kind and I think everything after the 1st generation are.

Interesting. I need to check to make sure I can't use rechargeable.

bought a set of 3 Ring Stick Up cams. wireless and the batteries last about one month with the sensitivity level where i have it.
as stated above, solid investment. cloud subscription is $100/year for all three.

oh, they also have two-way communication so you can talk to the delivery guy or the dogs!
