My home owners insurance has jumped yet again. It has risen $1200 over the last two years. I have Shelter covering my house, 2 vehicles, companion life insurance policy and my wifes wedding ring.

Our house is ~2200 square ft, in Edmond, built in 2007 and my premium is now $3,343. Are there any insurance guys on here that can help me out?

Mine went up a ton also. I just switched to Safeco for home and auto and saved $2200 a year. After yelling at my insurance guy asking how it was possible to save $2200 and I not know that. I am thrilled with the switch I made.

I would be happy to visit with you concerning your insurance. I was a Farmers agent for 17 years before leaving and becoming an independent agent. Feel free to email me at [email protected] to visit further.

Poke15, years ago when we bought our house we jumped on board with an insurance group recommended by the mortgage company and blindly payed the premiums as they went up. I went to a friend after 7 or so years and asked him to see what he could do. He ended up saving us over $700/year. This was about 13 yrs ago also, so it was a pretty big chunk.

I think if you are in Oklahoma your rates are going up form the previous tornados and hail damage. No way around it. I've replaced my roof twice in the past 3 years and I couldn't get another quote from anyone...no one would touch me. I'm with Farmers and they are still being reasonable.

I've used Amica for several years now. They were highly rated and had great premiums. Esurance on our vehicles and no other pricing comes close.

There is a lot of truth in what you say in regard to tornadoes and hail damage causing large increases in home premiums. However, there have been no major events since the summer before last. Most insurance companies have caught up on premium now. 2014 will likely be a record year of profit in the home insurance industry in OK due to no major events.

FYI - your home rate with Farmers may be ok ONLY because you are untouchable by most other companies. After spending 1 year as an independent agent, I promise that your auto and home insurance can be purchased for significantly less when insured as a package with a company other than Farmers once one of your home claims is over 3 years old (especially if your household has a spotless driving record).

Get a price on Earthquake insurance also just to compare.
Make sure your getting replacement cost on home, roof, and personal contents with backup of sewer and drain.

My brother in law is an independent insurance guy, and big OSU fan. What I like about him is since he is independent he can shop around so you're not stuck with one company if you really like your insurance agent. This year he switched us to MetLife and saved us around 500 a year.

Let me know if you want his info. osuivan @ gmail . com

Recently bought a house and AAA was the cheapest. This might be 100% insurance guy BS but asked one insurance agent about it and he said that the prices AAA are currently offering just aren't sustainable. They left the market for a while and are now coming back in but at some point they are going to have to raise their rates. Of course that could be just agent talk to not get me to go with AAA.

just got some life insurance and these guys tried to shop both my house and cars and that's when I found out no one would take me on the house and they couldn't compete on the cars either.

You likely won't be able to move until the home claims are further in the past. Once they are, if the driving records are in good shape, there will be a half dozen independent companies that will be less expensive than Farmers when pricing auto and home together.

As one of the above posters mentioned, you will need to be careful where you go IF you currently have replacement coverage on your roof. That coverage will be limited by many companies. Unless you are saving enough money to compensate, you REALLY want replacement coverage on your roof in OK. With Farmers, you may or may not have it. I personally believe replacement coverage on roofs in OK will be harder and harder to find in the future. Simply costs the insurance company too much money.

There is probably some truth to it... In all forms of insurance companies go through periods of aggressively writing business and then depending on many factors will often scale way back and that is when you will see premiums rise. As a smart consumer you should be willing to shop around if needed.

We were with metlife for years. Rates literally quadrupled. AAA was far and away the winner.

Now I'm pretty sure they are just buying market share. Also pretty sure some of the rate increases are people trying to escape the market.

Five years from now I'll probably be running from AAA.
