MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Sept. 15, 2021) – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons and the Big 12 Conference have announced the 2021-22 men’s basketball schedule.

The nonconference schedule will feature eight games at the WVU Coliseum and five games away from home, including three in the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic.

WVU will open the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 9 against Oakland at the WVU Coliseum. The two teams will meet for the third time in all-time series play and the first since 2012.

Three days later, the Mountaineers will host Pitt in the Backyard Brawl on Friday, Nov. 12. The two teams will meet for the 188th time with WVU winning the last four meetings. Last year’s meeting scheduled in Morgantown was canceled due to COVID-19.

West Virginia will have three games in the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic in Charleston, South Carolina. WVU will open with Elon, then face Ole Miss or Marquette a day later. On the final day, the Mountaineers will play either Boise State, Clemson, St. Bonaventure or Temple.

The Mountaineers will then return to Morgantown for five consecutive games, starting with Eastern Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 26. Those two teams will meet for the first time since 2015.

West Virginia closes November with its first-ever meeting against Bellarmine on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The Mountaineers will open December against Radford on Saturday, Dec. 4. The Highlanders, under the direction of former Mountaineer Darris Nichols, will play in Morgantown for the first time since 2016.

For the first time, West Virginia will host a game in the Big East-Big 12 Battle. On Wednesday, Dec. 8, former Big East foe Connecticut will visit Morgantown for the 10th time and first since 2011.

West Virginia closes its five-game homestand against Kent State on Sunday, Dec. 12. The two teams will meet for just the third time in series history and first since 2011.

On Saturday, Dec. 18, WVU will travel to Birmingham, Alabama, to face UAB at the newly renovated Legacy Arena. UAB is coached by former Bob Huggins assistant Andy Kennedy. The Blazers will return the game to Morgantown during the 2022-23 season.

West Virginia will play its final home nonconference game of the season against Youngstown State on Wednesday, Dec. 22. That game was canceled last season due to COVID-19.

The Mountaineers will close nonconference play on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Arkansas in the annual Big 12/SEC Challenge.

WVU will play its first Big 12 game on the road at Texas on Saturday, Jan. 1 and will conclude the Big 12 schedule at home against TCU on Saturday, March 5. The Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship will be held March 9-12 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Mountaineers will play a charity exhibition game against Akron at home on Friday, Oct. 29.

Game times and the television schedule will be announced when available.

Tough stretch right here:

Tuesday Jan. 11 Oklahoma State * Morgantown

26 wins wow. I hope you are right. Why such out of the world prediction? Serious question.
I could have said 39-0. Considering the season has yet to start. OOC is fairly light this year with exception of a few teams. Interesting you picked 26 and not the 22. Huggins averages 22 wins a year. Learn to hit foul shots and it's 26.

So your prediction was based on the wind? Ok then.😎

All predictions 2 months ahead of season starting are based on last years teams or wind. Get educated.

And your prediction is based on hating Huggins.

I don't evaluate until about 8 games in. You can usually tell by then the type of team they will be. But this years evaluation is difficult because the schedule is a little lighter and 2 key guys are no longer there. One in NBA and one lost at sea.

Team is only as good as the point guard

Not totally familiar with the transfer. Curry. Don’t remember where he transferred from off the top of my head. Was a mid major

Up in the air truthfully. Could be a decent team again all the way to one who finishes below .500 in conference play

Like I have said before IMO it will be a classic Bob Huggins season. He is a mechanic. Always tinkering with the engine. Going to see some big wins but also some embarrassing losses.
Luckily preseason is somewhat light. This is for good reason. Huggins knows how much he counted on McBride last year.

26 is way too high
Considering Oklahoma St and Tx Tech can actually be very good teams
TCU, K State and Oklahoma all have some good pieces and could be in position for a NCAA Tournament bid

Iowa State is the only team in conference who most likely won’t be much of a threat
Even then they could get someone or someones at home

Texas Tech is a sweep. Baylor upset win in Morgantown. Go 4-4 in that stretch.
Kevin Obanor might be one of the better transfers
They have a lot of size up front to change lineups.
Another transfer from UTEP and Santos Silva is still there.

They are another team no one has a clue about. Could be Top 10. Could be below .500 in conference
Just matters with their guards. They lose a lot of backcourt production

I don’t think there is a team in the conference who can say for sure they expect to sweep them

Let's compare this year with last year. Last year Culver being our only player at 5 hurt us. Oscar quit. Cottrell injured. Gabe as the only other real option at 5 and he had to play a lot of 4 unless we played more small ball with SF's Bridges, Mathews or Thweatt manning the 4. Derek played his heart out. That shouldn't be questioned ...... EVER. None of Cottrell, Paulicap, Seny, Gabe or Carrigan will replace Derek. None are close to being the overall player he is.

That being said, those 5 in combination will bring much more versatility and depth to the 4/5 than Derek/Gabe of last year. Derek was not a shot blocker, Paulicap is. Derek isn't an outside threat, Cottrell and Carrigan can shoot from deeper ...... we think. Derek and Gabe had NO backups unless we went smaller. We now have 5 legit 4/5's and another RS in waiting. That is to go along with 3 SF's that have size and could play small ball manning the 4. Huggs won't have to worry so much about "saving" the 4/5's because of foul trouble because of this depth. Teams won't target our bigs knowing they will have to back down because of fouls. Our bigs won't have to back off because of fouls.

Same can be said of Deuce. None of Malik, Dedrian, Kobe or Seth alone will be able to do the things that Deuce did. But each has qualities that filled the void that Deuce left. IMO the PG position will overall be stronger in the long run. A little more size with Kedrian, Seth and Kobe. Very good quickness with Malik. We won't have to worry that much about having the starter log 35 min/gm.

The 2 will be more experienced with Sean and Taz coming back and the addition of any of the PG's that can also move to the 2. SF is a huge upgrade with Bridges instead of Matthews. Add Taj and King (who may/should RS) as backups this position is much better.

This will be a very different ball game next year. Individually we aren't as strong at the 1 and 5 as last year. As a team we will adapt because of our ability to do different things and the depth is there. Don't be surprised if we roll out PressVirginia again. Maybe not in the same form as a couple years ago, but PressVirginia none the less. This team is deep.

Texas Tech new coach. Game sweep mark it now. Have beaten better Tech teams than the clowns there now. Besides your lame *** shouldn't be on this board.

Everything between 3-9 in the conference is an unknown

Hard to determine anything except you will see some big wins and some games when the trolls show up
Even in the last place season Huggins beat Kansas at home

I don’t think a team like WVU will fall all the way down to 9th but the Oklahoma schools and TX Tech have some nice pieces

OU picked up the Groves brothers. They played huge against KU in the NCAA Tournament

Who said WVU won’t win one game but both is a different matter

I don’t know much about the guard they picked up in the transfer portal
But their backcourt is the question

Their front court and wing guys are nice

They actually are a team to watch out when you talk about playing “big” and turning up the pressure to create easy baskets

You're the easiest mark on the board. You may now leave. I say sweep. You don't like it and I don't give a ****. WVU SWEEPS.

Drunk talking out of your ***..
Like always
Sound like wvpride
When I told him about Jevon Carter

same thing with McBride. Until you see this transfer from Old Dominion who knows

But McBride is a better player and was impacting games at a higher level at a younger age

I am interested in Johnson. Could be the one to watch

I don't drink. But if that helps you pretend you have intelligence then go for it. All you need to know is you don't belong here. You and your 100 other profiles is why most nights at 1 am you're talking to yourself. Tech has an unproven HC in P5. Huggins gets more from his players than any head coach. WVU sweeps and it's killing you.

😂😂😂
Huggins is a good coach but ultimately this a team that will have a lot of ups and downs
Even when he has his players that is the case
Wouldn’t predict that this team will sweep anyone besides Iowa State

Just like two years ago when WVU was ran off the floor by a horrible K State team on the road..

Too many question marks.

If you want to see why you should have this opinion
Watch McBride in the summer league…

Like I said with Jevon Carter
Some people might not be giving him enough credit for last year

Well…
There is a reason why WVU went weak on out of conference
Huggins isn’t too confident with this team yet.
Give it some time.
More than that this season isn’t exclusively on Huggins and WVU
It is on the competition. A lot of question marks.
Especially with K State and TCU. But K State looked very good to end the season. Think they might be the huge sleeper. That would mean that it is another tough game for those teams 3-6

Only time WVU has won 22 games since joining the Big 12 was when Jevon Carter was the PG
Coronavirus prevented 22 wins with McBride

NBA level PG=22+ wins pretty much

Hard to see it

Even more so the 3 years they didn’t have Carter nor McBride
Huggins finished at .500 or below

Interested in Johnson.
Like his wingspan. Could end up being a future NBA player
We will have to see.

Your prediction already has been blown, as you predicted a sweep of Texas Tech, T-Bone. Keep trying, though, and you might finally get a prediction right. I hope that you don't bet on games.

Yet again have never see T-Bone profile post here.
Shucks darn a prediction was missed. I should jump off a building. You're a dumbass and I'm in your head. I bet on the bowl games with point spreads and cleared 1,000 dollars. Record was 25-12.
