This is very good news. Would love to see him develop a short range face up jump shot and a jump hook that seems to be so popular.

Great news!

Side item for those who didn’t see this: Derrick was Academic All Big 10.

Can someone please tell me, and maybe even convince me, that Walker is a better than good player? I’m not saying he sucks or trying to be a contrarian, I just have never found him to be that influential. We definitely need bigs, but what about his game that says he makes Nebraska better? I’m sure I’ll be chastised for saying /asking this, one way or the other. But what does he excel at, exactly? He’s never been much of a scorer.

For one, he’s played out of his position from day one with no other capable 5’s. He’s a 4 PF! He plays very good defense, has real good low post moves and has improved EVERY year. For me Personally, this is the ONE player I wanted back and that includes Bryce!

Yep this x1000....Walker is more of a 4 and would be a pretty tough matchup for most opposing 4s. Hopefully Keita fills in the 5 role or whatever passes for a 5 in Hoibergs scheme...

Capable rebounder and defender. Catches the ball well and has enough of an offensive game to be an inside scoring threat. Also has a solid basketball IQ and doesn’t make dumb mistakes. If all of this sounds okay but unspectacular, remember this is Nebraska basketball we are talking about.

Good news, but if Fred doesn't find a couple of guys who can score to replace Bryce and Verge, it will be another long season.

This gives us a little hope. I've always thought he gets moved a little too easily. I would love for him to put on 15 pounds, get a little shittier attitude, and become a brut.

He averaged 9 points a game in conference play on 63% shooting from the field. Keeps improving as a player every year. 5.6 rebounds per game in conference. Plays with effort. I think he will be an important team leader for us next year.

The problem with saying that he's a 4 is in that today's game a 4 needs to be able to shoot from outside of 5 feet. He's got gaps in his game but he's a very valuable player who even given his lack of size can score around the rim. IF there were any way he could find a 3 pt shot and force bigs to cover him outside the low post, it would help tremendously.

He could’ve been a PF in 2005. In 2022 most centers can shoot the deep ball, let alone PFs. You can’t afford to have two guys on the floor at the same time who can’t shoot a three. Using him as a PF would do just that.

He’s absolutely a center in this era of basketball. Unfortunately that means he’s undersized. He’s an average player but that means he’s a critical piece to a terrible team. Definitely glad he’s coming back.
