Hopefully Jasper is on Fears' level next year

I think Jasper Johnson is fully capable of reaching fears' level, and if that happens, we'll be unstoppable next year. Johnson has great athleticism, solid handles, and a decent shooting touch. I believe he has the potential to contribute at a level similar to fears.

That’s probably unlikely just by sheer probability. Fears is kind of an exceptional freshman

I actually think the plan was to get Fears to Kentucky next year if he hadn't blown up this season. Jasper Johnson had alluded to the fact that he knew about something that Kentucky was planning on the recruiting trail but he couldn't talk about it. He and Jeremiah are good friends.

Now that plan is obviously not going to work due to Jeremiah being a probable top 20 pick.

He is a proven player. If he is dubbed lower than expected in nba draft. Go and get him. Nli. No better example of Pope doing what is needed. Got to have magic happen here and there. To get us back to the Level.

Fears was just four star prospect

Jasper is solid five star

Jasper definitely has chance to be "exceptional" freshman
That’s not how that works though. I’m not referring to the stars beside their name. Those stars next to their name mean next to nothing. Even most 5 star freshman guards are not going to be as good as Fears. Expecting Johnson to perform like that might set you up for a letdown. Just being realistic

I think jasper is tyty or cason Wallace good... Fears is on another level...

If he’s TyTy that would be shockingly good. I could see him being Wallace level good even though they are different archetypes. I think TyTy pre-injury was a better player than Cason.
He and tyty are similar type of player, scoring combo guard with some kind of passing ability. Jasper is better in athleticism, I think he could reach tyty level...

The difference is TyTy was also a good defender. Both have three level scoring ability. Remains to be seen if Jasper can be a better than average defender which has been one of his weaknesses. On the other hand, Jasper is a better pure shooter but probably not quite the finisher TyTy was.

They definitely won’t be identical in every aspect when comparing two players, each will have strengths and weaknesses in different areas. I’m just talking about the overall expectation of their level. Jasper has better athleticism than TyTy, but the competition in the SEC is tougher now than it was back then.

Better question for me is, has Oweh's value gone up so much lately that he may stay in draft? I think he has much to work on but you never know.
NBA scouts don't care about a game winning basket.
They probably made more notes on his two turnovers at the end of the game.
Oweh will probably never be a draft pick this year or next.
NBA teams just bring in guys like him as free agents in the summer.
If he makes the team, fine. If he doesn't no loss to them.

Doubt it. He’s a tweener. Would be totally different story if he could run point or if he were 3/4 inches taller and could really shoot it. JMO.

True, I see Jasper is tyty or cason Wallace good, but fears may on another level

Considering fears was just a four star recruit, this is shocking!
I believe he was a 5 star recruit who reclassified late and they bumped him to 4 stars. I guess they underestimated him!

If Jasper plays his best version and makes those players on the court with him better then he will be just fine. Having the guards we have this year will make it less important that Jasper be the best freshman guard in the SEC or NCAA. He can be one of the best freshman if he plays within himself, makes those surrounding him better while between the lines. I say he gets between 10 and 14 ppg this year on average. Mainly due to the offense and who he is on the court with at the time he plays. If we have Lowe, Jasper, Oweh, Mo and JQ on the court,, have the ball movement and cutting, who do you leave open. Lowe will shoot more like his freshman year if not better. You put Jasper at the point with Aberdeen, Chandler, AJ, BG again who do you leave open or no face guard being open to the cutting. This offense should really shine and be just a little different looking than last years team.

I would actually consider taking Fears 2 overall I think his ceiling is that high. I got him right there with Flagg at top of my draft board if I was picking .

If Jasper is even in his ball park it's a grand slam for us

Chandler ain’t no chopped liver as a sophomore either jj and chandler have big potential next season! Another freshman to hit the ground ruunning. He knows uk basketball and will get a head start because he has a life of being around the culture. That’s a different animal a different freshman. Yeah he will fight like hell for that starting spot and we have guys who will make him work to win it. It’s gonna be interesting and possibly exciting.

Johnson will be hard to handle, he’s played against tough competition and has excelled. I believe he will be as good as advertised, he has all the tools to be successful.

I think folks are undervaluing Lowe. He is going to be tough to handle for our opponents. He can slash and turn on a dime. Think he will thrive in Pope's system.

Lowe,Josnson , Aberdeen and Chandler are going to be a load in the backcourt for other teams to defend.

I just hope we get 10-12 minutes a game out of Jasper once the SEC starts. We need someone to give the primary players a break because the SEC is a meat grinder. I’m hopeful that he gets out of the year with some experience and confidence, as I do believe he could be solid as either a Sophomore or Junior. That is if he takes conditioning seriously.

Johnson is taller and longer than Fears. He can fill in at three positions. I have no doubt that the 10-12 minutes you are hoping for will come to fruition.

Jasper is every bit of 6-4 with shoes on and long arms will help him on defense although he’s only pushing about 185 lbs soaking wet. Defiantly needs to gain about 10 lbs of muscle for the SEC.

Im just going off the way he looked against other 6'4 or 6'5 guys. He looks shorter.
He weighs about 165 also
