The original Night of the Living Dead is my favorite. Not big into slasher movies, I need super natural killers or aliens.

Never saw this one...have seen the Jeff Bridges/keifer southerland remake tho

TBH I've never seen the remake so I can't personally speak on how they compare, but I've always heard the remake pales to the original. I can't imagine it having the same kind of vibe.

Not trying to give much in the way of spoilers, but a young couple pulls in to stop at a gas station, the girlfriend goes inside to buy a drink, and then vanishes. The boyfriend frantically searches everywhere for her to no avail. Years pass, he tries to have other relationships but can't keep obsessing over her and wanting to know what happened that day. He ends up meeting up with the person who knows what happened and the only way this person will let the boyfriend find the truth is to agree to experience it himself.

The remake was directed by the same director. Which is interesting. Haneke did the same thing with Funny Games.

While it is more of a thriller, we need horror movies that will leave lasting effects on people like the way Jaws did. That movie made people afraid to go out in the water. We need more movies that will make you afraid to turn out the lights. Movies that make you scared to be by yourself.

Movies today are all about the quick scare. Get people to jump in their seats at the theater, but you don't give it a second thought after you leave. I want it to make me check my backseat when I get into my car after leaving the theater. Make me want to sleep with a light on or with a gun under the pillow. Can anyone make a movie like that anymore? Scare the holy ish out of me?

No Horror thread is complete without some Troma films!

One of my favorites: Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead.

Warning NSFW, probably not safe if you're squeamish or just ate lunch.

Try "Dog Soldiers" if you want to laugh your *** off while you're terrified.

One of the more memorable moments, a soldier tells a werewolf "I hope I give you the *****" before the werewolf eats him.

The Human Centipede was great first time I watched it.

Have a tradition every Hallowern season to watch House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. I really like Rob Zombie's horror films. Salem sucked ***, however.
Agree on Zombie. Rejects >Corpses. Waited for Salem to be good, still waiting. Liked Zombie's Halloween remakes too.

I was inadvertently linked to a recent Mexican Drug cartel execution. Isis could take pointers. That stuff can make you go numb but what I saw last night was only slightly surpassed in pure horror by the debate.

That said, I'm going to go with The Conjuring as a recent one that does the job well enough without too much cheese. Also a pretty big fan of Takashi Miike's (Padre posted Audition earlier and he has quite a few great ones) work (examples include Ichii the Killer and Gozu).

I haven't given Takashi a full run-though.

But The Conjuring and those films haven't done much for me. There's just wayyy to many of that type of film out right now. "Whoooaaa, spooky paranormals/children that aren't happy, better do some *insert euphemism for exorcism* now!". Wash, rinse, repeat.

That Poultrygeist clips was pretty funny. Good stuff.
I'm not really into ghost horrors because they fall in the same predictable story line movie after movie.

Don't post much, but seeing how this is a horror movie thread, I couldn't resist. One that I haven't see mentioned but is really is good, is Trick 'r Treat. Probably the best Halloween movie I have seen. Planet Terror and Deathproof are really good. Martyrs is another. I love House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects, and of course, I love The Thing.

Normally I'm some near-naked costume for Halloween, which is hysterical to see reactions on a 40 degree night... but I've played it out.

So going as R.J. MacReady for Halloween. All thanks to @Willy4UK and his love of The Thing.
