America is not well right now, but the rest of the world isn’t, either. We will be fine.

America is fine, and as always the people are doing the heavy lifting, while the politicians are acting like the clowns they always have been.

Anyone spouting off about how awful we are compared to the world is a dumbass and should be ignored. I don't understand that mentality other than to sell clicks through fear mongering.

This thing ain’t over yet.

We are likely closer to beating this than anyone other than Sweden. Sweden took a beating in nursing homes, but their general population has done well - and their less stringent and more free living guidelines are going to pay dividends.

This virus beat down the American politicians...and I’d blame that on the American media and their display. Unreasonable expectations, misinformation or overhyping of incorrect assumptions has played a huge role into the reaction of politicians. This can be shown in many polls - some showing that Americans believed 9% of US citizens had died from C19, and 18-34 year olds believed they had a 20% chance of dying if infected.

However - the American people may have led us into great position. The northeast hammered early, has low potential for large outbreak...the sunbelt is now over its peak case bump and close to, if not over its hospitalization peak...which will in turn lower those areas potential for outbreak. The Midwest has been slow and steady - cities have been hit and the slow burn continues - outbreak potential low, slow longer burn likely.

Other countries may have to go through more torture...again, this ain’t over and the results are not in. We have shaken the coke bottle and popped the top in many areas....other countries have the coke, that fell to the floor in hand...what are they going to do about it?
Closer to anyone to beating it than Sweden? New Zealand hasn’t had a positive test in 100 days.

What alternate reality are you living in?

New Zealand will have to stay locked down within their island until a vaccine or treatment. Tourism is 10% of the countries GDP (direct + flow-on effects) and tourism supports nearly 200k jobs in NZ, good for 8% of their total workforce.

If indefinite island lockdown is a balanced and reasonable outcome for them and their economy, then things look good for them. Being an island isn’t an option for many countries - but I’m not sure a long term closed island will have them thriving in the long run.

Australia was in a similar victory lap situation and cases blew up a bit.

PS: this means the virus was alive and well for 100 days without the NZ government being able to detect it. Low amount of spread likely - but also would have to point towards a low level of severity in cases for 100 days.

Lockdown.

Our college kids going on spring break when they did is going to end up being a godsend. I'll bet 20% caught it and took it home or back to school and never knew it. As bad as the school shutdowns hurt us the spring break free for all helped us. I think there is a reason so many colleges are testing soooo low right now.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1105753/cumulative-coronavirus-deaths-in-sweden/

Sweden is only having 1 or 2 deaths per day since July 20. They have still had people doing outpatient medical procedures so they won't see a huge spike in suicide, cancer, heart disease... etc etc. Their economy has already started improving and showed growth for the 1st quarter and are poised to rebound faster than most from the 2nd quarter.

Are you insane? When it comes to State and Federal Gov neither side wants the other to succeed. Both sides are more than happy to see American people suffer if it fits their agenda and stuffs their pockets.

This is a ridiculous statement. Almost everyone on the left and right are rooting for us to succeed. Can’t do it without a cohesive and unified strategy.
